That is one highly cool looking light-up fiddle, EJ!  I wonder how much the lighting and whatever it uses for power adds to the weight, though.

The scroll or any other sort of "decoration" like that will affect the sound of a stringed instrument at least a little.  If it has more mass than the standard scroll, it will likely add a little bit of sustain, for example.  One of my guitars has a brass plate added to the headstock for just that reason.  Shape of the scroll or whatever on a violin probably also has other effects on the sound, but I couldn't begin to try and guess what it might do specifically.

The sound of a violin begin's at the nut, the scroll has nothing to do with it except for decoration only. That's why you will often see various sculpt's that replace the traditional scroll.

I read that in a article.   hats_off And that does look really cool.... oop's, HOT.devil-violin

@EJK, lol, you can make one, that light thingy is an "el wire", it's pretty cheap on ebay, but you have to need an ac power supply

cheers! - ⁰ℨ

I really like the idea of having the bow hair lit up. It could be real cool when playing fast.

soak the bowhair in a UV sensitive liquid and add a blacklight to the performance.

Dang... if only I had that light up bow last year when I had an orchestra concert on halloween. Everybody came wearing a costume. I dressed up like a jedi. My costume could have been more authentic with a light saber bow. laugh

Lot's of my friends bought a bow called the "Spiccato Maestro" by Benoit Rolland many years ago. That bow had an adjustable arch using a wire that ran through a hollow stick. With this bow I could easily make a LED lit bow using that channel to fish the wires.
Just an idea. smile

It is "slightly" possible that I can have made a mistake. ;-)
How do you know this Kevin? I've never cut one open.

You are correct. I thought it was hollow because when I heated it up enough to bend it I got it too hot and it started to colapse like a hollow tube. I checked it just now and it has a core to it.duncecap

I would think one could get at least some of the effect by putting a strip of florescent tape on the bow stick and having a black light on nearby.

No it's OK. I got it mostly back to shape. The stick still has a small wrinkle in it but it's barely noticeable.

inside-FM-Bow.jpgImage EnlargerNow it's ruined. I couldn't stand that the curve in the bow was wrong so I tried one last time to bend it and it collapsed again so I decided to find out for sure if they are hollow.

THIS IS NOT A TYPICAL FIDDLERMAN BOW.  I PURCHASED THIS AT A VERY REDUCED PRICE KNOWING IT WAS NOT RIGHT.
