Is there any benefit to loop end strings?

If i'm honest, I don't think that there is.

I have used both loop and ball end strings of the same type and the doesn't seem to be any difference in the sound.

Playing a piece is easy... Playing it right is not...

As far as I know, the only difference is that you can use a Hill style E string fine tuner. :)

One thing to watch out for is the strings with a ball. Sometimes you can just "pop" out the ball from the loop and use it on a post type and then again some are double wrapped around the ball and you can't.

@MrYikes, just to be clear, the choice of whether to use ball-end or loop-end strings is simply one of tail piece and/or fine tuner design.  Some have a hook, those take a loop-end string, some have slots and those take the ball end strings.  So to decide you'll need to look at your tailpiece and see if the string is held by a hook or a slot. Other than the the strings are identical.
