Does the weird noise disappear when you add pressure?
Does it only sound when changing strings or when you play a steady note?

Don't worry too much about how much hair you have on the bow. I wear the hair off big time on my bows because I don't want to re-hair every 6 weeks and you really can't hear the difference with my bow almost having half the amount of hair that it should. However, you can see the difference when I wear that much off plus the hairs break much faster when there are so few.

It 's not the hair, it's the stick. the stick would tremble so fast that it make the sound weird. Almost as if the stick is vibrating on an opposite direction of the string's vibration. It happened when I change strings, like DBGB DBDG and when I played fast, occasionally when I do long notes. When I applied more pressure, it seemed to be doing better. I do notice that I am slack on my bow hold so I have been paying more attention on it.

OK, I understand what is happening.

You need to work on your bow technique. I would strongly suggest that you look at my finger flexibility video. If you still have problems after learning this bow technique you can turn the bow slightly inwards to get more of a shock absorber type effect. Too little pressure might be your problem too.

Hey, just read the string thing and have a couple questions. The violin I purchased came with Helicore strings. The owner said the strings were more for fiddle type of playing since they have a different type of vibration. Since I'm leaning more towards classical playing at this point, I'd like to try out some good strings. I'm thinking a Synthetic Core String but am not really sure. I'm not afraid of spending a little more money on good strings as I would like a better sound. And of course since I don't have a lot of time on the violin, I really haven't heard different type of strings. The helicore strings I have do have a strong loud sound and to me it sounds good. But my gut is telling me maybe it's not a bad idea to just try another set. Also, do I need to get a different A or E string due to some inherent issues with either the sound or the string breaking?  I need an extra set just in case a string breaks anyways. What would be a good site to purchase string at?

Oh forgot to add this site about strings I found..

Hey Terry, I believe that you would be satisfied spending the money on the synthetic core violin strings but you may want to wait till your new strings need to be changed. I use Dominant and they are very popular even for expensive fine Italian struments such as Stradivarius and Guarnieri and am very happy with them.note

Thanks Fiddlerman. I'll look into purchasing a set in the next few weeks. Which thickness would you suggest?

weich

medium

heavy

Also. Do all the sets come with 'steel E and Silver D' strings? I've seen some sets with aluminum strings or windings. Something like that.

OK, just found another site that offers you a custom setup. There are choices I have no idea about but would be nice to understand if someone could explain. The set I'm looking at is CS1001 4/4 Violin Strings-Custom Set. Includes Dominant A, Dominant Silver D, Dominant G and your choice of E. There is a large variety of E strings to choose from. I'm guessing this would be for professional players who would like to pick each string out. But the options are cool to be honest.

they come with steel E but you can choose options without the string as well. No Strings Attached Music Supplies offers options, just hard to understand. She also has a lowest price guarantee. Click on this link then under strings choose the option all the way on the bottom called, "Lower 3 strings and Silver D". Then you can choose any E string you like.

I'm sure there are tons of places that offer options and great prices. You may even find one through one of my Google Adsense sponsors on the far right ads
