i have been thinking about this:
if we change the bridges on guitar and all those Hu instruments, people would be able to play on them like they play violin, viola, cello, or double bass with different holding postures. Seriously I have been thinking about makind a bridge with arch for my Erhu and see if i could play without having bow hair between the strings, that way, I probably could have more strings on it, too, like three or four.
Sounds like a good business idea for someone. A specially designed guitar that could be played with a bow. Maybe not the most practical thing to do though.
OnlineYeah FM back in the early 80s I used a bow on guitar just to mimic Jimmy Page for that song than I did a long solo with it. It really sucked when we would go on to other songs cause it was hard to pick after the strings got sticky so I said forget after a few months of doing it. Yeah Jimmy Page sure didn't take any bowing lessons but great effects
OfflineJust wanted to mention why bows are arched the way they are today. Bows use to arched the other way but as you put more pressure on the strings the bow in essence became shorter and exerted less pressure on the hair. With the bow arched the way it is today, as more pressure is put on the bow it straitens out making the hairs tighter and keeping the more on a straight line as apposed to curving over the strings.
I've also had a look at the website, and some reviews, mostly positive. I'm wondering if the bow will improve the playing of a beginner, or slow progress of learning. Of course, it's not a lot of money to pay to experiment.
It seems that the reviews are pretty standard, and that the incredibow is more suited to specific fiddling styles.

OfflineDid it look like this ? I have a relative who plays this (Viper) with the harness and it was hard to get used to but is now OK.

OfflineInteresting,
I didn't know about Mark Wood.
In Sweden I had a rock quintet with 4 Zeta string quartet instruments and D-drums. We used effects on stage and played rock n roll some bluegrass and Swedish country.
For about 3 years we did exactly what Mark Wood is doing with the student orchestras across the country. We provided them with material to learn in advance and coached them intensely for 2-3 days with a rock n roll concert at the end. Everything from technique, stage appearance and attitude. This was the highlight of so many students musical experiences. I received countless letters and email from parents that were so grateful that their children had discovered a new love for the their instrument.

OfflineMy Brother's Grand Daughter is active in the Mark Wood programs and actually spent a week at one of his camps this Summer. I even saw stage video where she was playing in a group with Mark Wood in attendance.
She has sort of put her affiliation as a Philadelphia Orch. intern on the back burner

Landbachen does not want to play for me but I do like the sound/style of the other clips.

På Landbacken should play for you now. I was having problems when I embedded it. I worked it out.
