Just to keep you all updated on the Traveler -- I've asked Terry to hang on to it for a little bit longer until it can be shipped to Donald in Denmark in early September. After that it will go to augustoad in Brazil.

Donald and Augusto are the only two people left from the original list, other than a few  people who passed when their turn came up.

There are two new people here in the U.S. who have signed up. So, when it leaves Brazil, unless we have new people from other parts of the world sign up, I guess it will come back to the U.S. and go through the list of those who passed up their first turn, plus any new signups that we have.

Let the bow flow.

Excellent - thanks for the good work there @fiddle chick, I know you're very busy - so well done for keeping on top of it !

I *had* seen some other expressions of interest in this thread and I did explain what they needed to do - BUT - it is clearly spelled out, and if they haven't sent the request and their details to Pierre - well - that's up to them....

Looking forward very much to the next step in The Traveler's journey - awesome !

It's time for the Traveler to be on the move again. @TerryT I sent you a PM with details on where to ship it. Please let me know when it ships and, if possible, provide a tracking number so Donald will know when to expect it. Thanks!

Let the bow flow.

Awesome - and oddly enough because I knew the fiddle was still in the UK, over the last few days I tried to get in-touch with Aly Bain as a possible "guest" host - but it turns out he's on-tour right now....   Anyway - great to see she's just about on her travels again, fantastic !  Thanks for your hard work keeping track of the addresses and destinations @fiddle chick

Received your msg and am in the process of packing and shipping. Once I have a tracking number I'll let you know.

Couldnt respond to your msg as for some reason, there is no "send" button!

I was born with nothing,
and to my surprise I still have most of it left!

Does the Travelling Violin have a send button ? If not, where can I get one ? I did not know such things existed.

Another possible innovation would be an Undo button.

"Escape" could also come in handy.

Where is the USB port located ?

The only button the traveler has is the "share' button.

I swear- someday I will be playing as well as my imagination

This is a public service announcement. It concerns what I think is still a part of the UK Public Service. N.B. "public service" and "Public Service" are not interchangeable terms. The "Public Service" is a forest of government departments, clothed in paperwork. It loses this paperwork at least once a year during Autumn (Fall in the US). This necessitates the public re-submitting the same forms annually, whereupon the process of losing the new paperwork resumes in time for the next Winter.

Whereas "public service" is a concept. This concept is not fully understood by Public Servants, many of whom are products of the UK public education system.

(Don't get me started on the definition of "Education").

I think the Royal Mail is still a part of the UK Public Service, but I might be wrong, as it could have been privatised or corporatised.

I was curious to investigate what is involved in sending a parcel containing a violin and other paraphernalia from the UK across the North Sea to Danmark. This may seem counter-intuitive as I am in Danmark and I am not trying to send a violin from the UK to Danmark. However, I suspect that being in Danmark is a disadvantage for research purposes, dealing directly & personally with Royal Mail could lead to a situation where I commit suicide.

The Royal Mail has a website http://www.royalmail.com

The website allows customers to use a handy online process & calculator to work out how to send a parcel overseas and how much it costs.

I tried using the calculator specifying a destination country of Danmark, specifiying that I was sending a parcel (in my imagination, for experimental purposes) and a weight between 2kg and 5kg.

This yields a response from the website that reads at Step 3:

"As your parcel weighs more than 2kg, it can only be sent as a Parcel."

On the screen for Step 3, there is a red button "See Prices"

Clicking the "See Prices" button takes one to Step 4.

Step 4 is headed "How much will it cost ?"

Step 4 has a new button, and just this single button, which is in grey this time, cunningly grey - so as not to confuse it with the red herring buttons. The grey button reads "Start Again". There is no other option.

Clicking the "Start Again" button takes the user back to Step 1.

I am glad all these buttons work, otherwise I would be lost.

Reminder: I need to follow up on the how, & where, of the "Share", "Send", "Undo" and "Escape" buttons on the Travelling Violin.

Maybe I am missing something, I am not particularly interested in finding out the prices of first class stamps and second class stamps, I finished my formal schooling 37 years ago. And since I finished the Invasian government has re-introduced university tuition fees. (Invasia is the new name for Australia.)

Donald (an Invasian, poor aborigines, I am beginning to understand how they feel)

LOL @Donald

.....I think the Royal Mail is still a part of the UK Public Service, but I might be wrong, as it could have been privatised or corporatised.

Oh yes, it is now a PMO.  ( I made that TLA up by the way - 'Profit Making Organisation' - fully privatised ! )

So, when is a parcel not a Parcel, well, clearly, when it's a Parcel, but it can't be, because it's a parcel.   I feel your pain.....

Royal Mail has never yet been (nor is it ever likely to be) the recipient of an award from the"Plain English Campaign"

My shipper has asked what insurance value for the traveller during shipping?

When I shipped it internally, I covered it for £400 - for no other reason than if it DID get bust, we would at least be able to replace it with some level of "intermediate" instrument...

It's priceless.

Also, please loosen the E string a little bit before shipping.

In general, placing a high / excessive insured value on an instrument when posting it internationally could have highly undesirable consequences. I mean that between certain countries customs duty applies, and is calculated "CIF", meaning value or Cost of the item, plus Insurance premium, plus Freight charges. The staff at customs are likely to use the insured value as the "Cost".

I do not expect CIF duty to be applied between England and Danmark, but I would expect it to be applied between a lot of other pairs of countries.

I will be in Danmark until October 11, then I should be in Germany until October 18 or 19, then back in Danmark until November 5. After November 5 I will be back in Australia until next March.

By the preceding paragraph I mean the violin should reach Danmark by October 10, and should not be sent so as to reach Danmark after November 5 (although it will be safe if it gets here - Rødvig - after November 5, I will not be in Rødvig then, and will not be back in Rødvig until March).

Back to the Royal Mail, it has just now dawned on me that vis-a-vis the Royal Mail guide to its prices of first class stamps and second class stamps (is that high school or primary school ?), the £1 stamps should cost one pound each, and the £2 stamps should cost two pounds each.

The next big issues are whether these prices include VAT, and whether the pounds have 100 new pence, 240 (old) pence, 16 avoirdupois ounces, 12 troy ounces or an indeterminate number of fluid ounces ?
