So it seems that my in-laws are wanting to have their violin back. dunno I've enjoyed playing her, but she isn't mine.  I am hopeful to be able to play her often, but there is no guarantee.  My wife's grandmother is dying, and the violin reminds my mother in law of her.  It's rather emotional.

My Mendini violin came to me with such poor action and alignment, not to mention the bridge is not made for it.. It is rather unplayable.  It looks nice though 😉

So I am in a position to be without a violin that is playable.  Bum deal.. I am making a video for fiddlerman.com to try and win the Cecilio thumbs-up.  So wish me luck!

In the mean time, I have something to trade if anyone would be interested.  I have an AT&T iPhone 4.. It's black, in good (not excellent) condition, the 16GB flavor.  SO... If you have an instrument that you would like to trade for an iPhone, I'm all ears.

If this post doesn't belong here, or on this forum no worries, I completely understand.  Just trying to keep my "fiddlin'" on a roll.

Thanks,  have a great day everyone.  You guys rule.drummer

Why not try to make that Mendini sing the best it can. Refit the bridge and the soundpost, change the strings. You would be surprised how it can sound.  You can get it done for around $50.00 but it can't hurt trying to do it yourself.

When did you get the Mendini?
You should try to exchange it for a Cecilio. You never know. Just tell them that it is unplayable.

kk music store... not exactly known for customer care... They won't take it back.. They actually sent out three sets of bows before I received a set that wasn't visibly warped.. Even then one of the "bows" had glue in the hair.  Blimey.

Do you carry the August F. Køhr K555?   I really love that finish.

Thanks

I actually do. I can give you a price of $750 including shipping for just the violin.

Am I correct in saying that price is the violin and an "outfit?" I'm not sure, but I think this is the same thing: http://beststudentviolins.com/......html#K550  Scroll down a little bit for the 555.

Thanks,

I did a search for the best price on this violin and I have the best one by far. If you click on that link and try to buy that violin you won't be able to. I tried. I thought that it was strange that they had such a low price. However, if you find a working site that has a better price I will match it for sure. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I got mine from KK as well and I wasn't happy at all with them. The bow broke coming out of the case, the other two bows they shipped me were severely warped, the strings were awful....

BUT.. with FM's help, advice on strings and a pretty bridge this thing sings like a songbird now. Its not easy to work out the kinks, but once you start changing things, you will notice a difference.

I figure sometime within the next year I will be ordering a new violin and I haven't found a better place to get one than right here.

Best of luck to ya!cheers

Did the nut seem to be poorly placed?  My E string is hardly higher than the fingerboard.. I could try a new bridge, but the nut its self isn't in place.  Any thoughts on fixing this issue?drummer

My tailpiece, fine tuners, chinrest, and all that seems to be placed properly. Talking to FM, though, he suggested that I take apart the tailpiece: unscrew all the fine tuners, take the strings out, inspect it and put it all back together and see if it was just a case of something being loose or not put together properly. I'm not sure about the nut issue, as mine SEEMS to be in place. Either that or I have crooked eyeballs.

You're not the first person to say that about their bows. I don't understand why Cecilio gives two junky bows. Why not give one better bow instead?
In my opinion you are really just paying for the violin actually. A great bow is expensive. I guess they just want to offer a complete outfit. I usually don't use a shoulder rest but eventually tested one of the ones included with the violin and it broke for me after about 15 minutes of playing. I glued the part that came off with super-glue but there is no telling how long that will last.

if you feel the E string is too close at the nut, try sliding the little sleeve for the E string all the way up and instead of putting it on the bridge, put it on the nut.  I have done this myself and it works just fine. It gives just that slight amount of lift to keep the styring from buzzing. I the string isn't buzzing I would leave it and consider how nice it is to have the string that close and not buzz.

I have to say that customer service is great from that kk music store but had to stay on the phone until I got a hold of someone that knew what they were talking about. My first instrument from them was a red saxophone that I wanted for stage presence and I was blown away how well it played compared to a very expensive one I own.

The tin was thin but it sounds wonderful. Then for solo gigs I wanted their little drum package including bongos, a conga and  another drum from I don't know where. I use those to pass to the audience to play along with me. A couple drums were cracked and KK replaced by the next day.

Those Cecilio violins sound great and their bows suck. It's hard to get a quality product from China but sometimes you get lucky or sometimes you can find someone that can fix her up...
