From The Age:
A rare double bass, crafted from spruce and pear wood in the 16th century, but with a ”subwoofer-like quality”, is the latest addition to the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s line-up of historically significant instruments.
Made by Gasparo da Salo, an Italian luthier born in about 1540, and regarded as the “Stradivari of the double bass”, it has been made available through the generosity of anonymous Australian benefactors.
