My daughter's violin arrived today. We watched the how to hold a violin, howto hold the bow and how to draw the bow across the strings videos together. We are still working on getting enough rosin on the bow I did a sound test using my bow which has "tested' her rosin. I was a little wobbly after about 45 minutes of diligently applying rosin with not much success.
Sorry about the pictures. They copied really big and I think I distorted them a bit when I shrunk them.

About rosin, my cello teacher told the class that when you use a new cake of rosin just breathe on it the way you would if you were fogging up a mirror and then apply it to the bow. Warm breath makes the surface of the rosin stickier so it goes onto the bow more easily. It's worth a try.
I've learned so much from my mistakes that I've decided to make some more.
