I decided I would check all the PROFILES in the MEMBER LIST so I might better understand the posts I read.  I wanted to find out about the age of the members.

Well, I found that age is not generally revealed by the members.  However there is some info and I remember some things I've read in the different threads.

Therefore, my generalized conclusions are:

The typical age of members is probably in the 50 to 60 range.

There are some 20 - 30's but not many.

There may even be a few "kids"

Anybody know more ?

Incidentally, I am probably the oldest at 74.

It's been said before but your musical fun has little to do with age.

There is a new fiddler in here that is in his 80's but I don't remember who it was.

No, I did not.  HOWEVER, I concentrated on ACTIVE members.

Many people signed up early on in connection with the violin raffles and the USERS ON LINE peaked around 40+ for the first raffle.

And many regular posters have long since disappeared.

Stats say we have some 1200 members but they are quieter than a muted silent violin.

So my survey is a bit odd but I think reasonable.  The average poster is not a spring chicken.

(The youngster I miss is Lukas who said my videos were "better than his sister".

That is great or was it sibling rivalry

dazed

I hope 80 something shows up ??

I feel much better about being 51 now. LOL

But more seriously, since this is a site that is largely angled at people who self teach to at least some degree ("Learn to play violin for free" being in the banner), I think that it attracts more people who are perhaps a bit older than it does those taking violin as a class in school or because their parents signed them up for lessons.

More than an age difference sort of thing, I would view it as the site attracting people (of all ages) that tend to be more self motivated and who are looking not only for information but for peer group encouragement and a sense of camaraderie.  That there happen to be more individuals who are at least a bit older in that group is no doubt true, but I think the site, community, tutorials and group projects will likely attract anyone of any age that is looking for a good supportive community to hang out in as they learn.

Ice cream sales and murder rates both increase in the summer, and almost 100% of the people involved in fatal car accidents will have eaten carrots at some time in the 30 days prior to their accident.

Correlation does not prove causation.

Well said, Daniel. Though I can think of a couple of characters that won't like you disparaging carrots, like that.

Another aspect is the maturing of the forum subject matter as members learn.  I think there is a lot of difference already compared to the "Twinkle, twinkle" era however ageless that may be.

I wonder who will be where and doing what in a year from now ?
