What did you have in mind John?
@Fiddlerman
Pierre
i was thinking that people could submit the shanty/shanties of their choice. There are so many great songs of the sea to choose from with the difficulty to play ranging from beginner to advanced.
It wouldn't matter if the same tune was posted by a number of players, it's not a competition, it's a party During our recent Australia Day party it didn't bother me that @mad_wed Naska could play Waltzing Matilda much better than I can
Actually, I thought it was great
Toward the end we could copy the posted tunes to a single page so that it would be easier for people to view them all.
I put the idea out there rather early to get our fiddlers to think about it and perhaps start to think about what shanties to post and to give time to learn and practice them
As for the founders of the day's interest. they would just like to have a link to our project page so that people who are interested in the day can see what we are doing. We don't have to do this. I only contacted them telling them that, "There is a group" planing this. Fiddlerman not mentioned at this time out of respect to you.
But if you have problems with this or any other ideas Pierre, please let me know
Seen it all. Done it all. Can't remember most of ..... What was I saying????

@Ferret Thanks so much for that link!
I just learned ARRRR is a positive response and AARRGGHH is usually used as a negative response.

Arr!

@Ferret Ahoy matey, be ye collectin' yer bits o' musical submissions here?
I found "New York Girls" today - quite a pacey (for me) tune - here's a stab at the first few bars - excuse the bowing and timing - only played it a dozen or so times to see what it sounds like - I quite like the feel of it - I'll continue to work on it...
Shiver me timbers,
Bill
I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh -

I reckon that I'll be 'launching' this little party on the first day of this this comin September. With the crew of the SV Fiddlerman postin their shanties from then till the big day on the 19th.

Got a wee bit further with New York Girls... with a bit of a backing track... still getting used to the timings.... hopefully it'll sound more like this ( and a lot better eventually )... Didn't know where best to post this - it's just practice and a bit of a laugh - didn't want to start a new thread
Arrrrr Jim lad, now that be me new fiddle, matey, had to mute it though at the time of recording...
Cap'n Ferret: "Practice away on them thar shanties me hearties, 'less ye all be a-feelin' the cat-o-nine-tails across yer backs"
Deck hands: "Aye, cap'n " [ sotto voce "an' yer a dirty ol' bilge rat!" ]
Cap'n Ferret: "I'll just pretend I didn't hear that you mutinous curs....!"

That's coming along nicely there Matey
It's a nice tune. I'm sure you'll get it all together well before the day.
I did notice that you have an unusual bow hold. I 'have' seen it held that way before but not often. I might have to try it

LOL cap'n Ferret, 'tis a little known variation on the "death grip" - and that be the result o' a broken pinkie! Probably not advised as proper technique.... but it's about as comfortable as I can get at the moment.
Avast ye sea dogs, put yer fiddles in yer hands and prepare to play...
