That was the comment that came from a friend while I was looking at sheet music for a Merle Haggard song while she was here.

My response? "Like hell I don't!"

Then I proceeded to print the sheet, study the notes for a bit and hit the strings. I dumbfounded her. Her high-horse crashed and she has only been back to my house once in the past two weeks. Guess I can't call her a friend, eh?

Anyone else had a similar experience or friends/family that just aren't supportive of your playing?

yea... i was a metal head guitarist.  when people that heard me play then hear what i'm trying now, they are dumbfounded and ask what i'm thinking.

a couple of weeks ago i got with one of my rock groups and told them we could only play accoustic.  (never would have came out of my mouth before).  they were astounded, but now are refusing to do the accoustic thing and expect me to know a song before we get together.

at least it pushes me to learn faster

LOL! People, who doesn't play violin are always very picky. They expect You to grab the instrument and play Paganini - Caprice 24 =). Don't be so upset with your friend, Sporksies, give her time =)

I have to hide my instrument from the GF of 27 yrs. She has no interest in violin music, says it's stupid, actually she's pretty negative about the whole thing... and she works out of town 2 weeks on with 2 days off so I have a lot of "alone time" to practice & play. When she's expected home, I make it a long practice session if possible the day she comes home and then go lock up my instrument and all the evidence until she leaves again in a couple of days, then drag it all back out and then start my practice all over again.

I might need to join violin players anonymous or something, I have to sneak around to play... she might construe this as having an affair huh?

I guess I need to come out of the closet huh?roflol

I just had to sneak in for a little comment here as the night is when I come alive. Most artists have addictive personalities. I think Mad Wed is beautiful and I think Dennis is very smart but maybe a little meth maybe? It takes a lot of time in a day to stay creative.
