I've heard people refer to their violin as their baby, but this is ridiculous. :) I spotted this at the New England Fiddle Contest today in Manchester, Connecticut. I'm just wondering...where did they put the baby? In the fiddle case?

When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low,

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.

I keep mine in a 5 gal bucket. That way I can carry it out into the yard and play out there or to the shed and play in there and then back inside to the basement. > Guess that is Viddle Abuse > ???

@StoneDog  ....I guess no one can accuse you of "not being able to carry a tune in a bucket!"  ;)

@StoneDog  ha ha. I would suggest you line the bucket in velvet.. Pleeeease.. :)   ha ha.. I love that you carry it around to play when to mood hits... Dang.. that is cool!

I don't baby my violin, but I do care for her.   After seeing some damage on used violins, I think, "oh how could this be?"  I have inflicted a scratch and another little bit of a blemish and I think it just about killed me.

I forgot to  note... that in studying and seeing the other violin on the grass...when there is a case nearby.. I sort of cringed.. and maybe "judged" a bit. LOL

I'm with ya, Toni. I didn't actually notice the violin on the ground until I downloaded the photo. I cringed, too.

No of course not, nope, no sire, I don't baby my violin(s), none of them, not a single one... all 4 have their own place on the couch where no-one every sits, protected by a coffee table baracaded against it so sitting is impossible. Out of the sunlight, away from the drafts that occur when doors are opened and not int he path of the swamp cooler, and I don't check the hygrometer on a bi-weekly basis either... no sir, don't baby them at all..

Ya know, I did at first! LOL  But I think it hindered my learning! :D  ......that and I started noticing my violin was nursing the drinks I was buying it......freakin' lightweight!

So now, she stays out of her case on a special mount, overlooking the tv, not far from the fridge! ;-)  Wait.......where'd she go?!?

Ugh....not again....Couch potato wasting my booze again!

I was just thinking after reading these posts......

If you could change tv stations by playing different notes on a violin, everyone would know how to play!  That, or be stuck watching soap opera's all day! ;-)

.......told ya'll it was dangerous when I got around to thinkin'! devil-violin

My favorite violin got its own chair next to the piano. With blankets and fur even. Keeping it out of sun and always make sure the violin is okay. Do I baby my violin? Yeah, at least its not a poor little dog. I just want my violin to last for a long time and keeping it in a good state.

As I read the forums, I glance over to the violin on the table. After playing last night, She was wiped down,  Bows put away...velvet put over her.  I am looking around at other items in the house.. left out and not "tucked" in... so I am thinking maybe I do baby her a bit.   So she does qualify as the only thing in the house that gets a "tuck in"

And I glance at the Cello, and other two violins... and they are put up...but not played and not tucked in.
