@stringy if youre talking about something you can actually play with drumsticks and brushes and stuff I havent messed with..

A few years ago I got a chance to play around with one of these for a time.

Id say to start an Easy phone solution is an app like loopz which is basically just looped drum tracks.

then there are apps like this

Drum Pad Machine | Boom:

Now I use some software called Ezdrummer2 and an atom pad or keyboard..or even painting the drum midi on to the tracks.. But then youre talking about the need for a computer.  But it is the easiest for me.  I think you can link it with a drum kit as well...havent tried that though so its possible Im wrong on that part.

It seems like some of the tascam and zoom products have some drum type functions similar to a click track.

maybe not what you had in mind but possibly something youd be interested in.

That loopz is probably the type of thing, basically pre programmed drum tracks is what I am looking for, I have a tascam, I am going to need a compressor as well probably, a drum machine with set beats that I can just speed up or slow down would be ideal, I will probably be recording reggae believe it or not, but I will also be doing other stuff. I will play guitar , lead and rythm as well as bass myself, and also sing, but I cant play drums, probably wouldnt even be able to do it with pads I have no skill at all with them,  apart from bohdran that is, but thats no good for what I want to do. I did once have a little drum machine cant remember what it was calĺed but it was just lots of different rythms, with different tempos, cant seem to find anything like that now.
