cool podcast series about fiddle music and artist.. Interviews with fiddlers along with tunes. There are several of these type podcast out there. Ive found the google podcast app useful in searching for them in one place..im sure there are other apps as good/better..just the one I picked to use.. heres the link which probably jumps to the latest episode.

@ABitRusty
Thanx for sharing that info!
I did listen to several of them last night.
Couple of Country/Western rags on #7 (think it was), otherwise a lot of "Lonesome". In all fairness, I didn't listen to all of them.
"Lonesome Moonlight Waltz" is enough for me, for now.😁

just what I need, more music to add to my already abounding "List"!
Emily @ elcb exactly..i know what you mean... and sometimes the commercial polished versions set that bar so high it can get frustrating... thank you amazing slow downer, one of my favorite apps. I was playing along with something one nite not too long ago at around 60% or something... for some reason i set it back up to 100% and it sounded weird..like it was on fast forward.

@ABitRusty -
When I 1st started playing I heard about the Amazing Slow Downer from "The Hot Violinist", when I used her tutorials for the Gael, "Last of The Mohican's Theme". Jenny O'Connor mentioned she used it - that was how she originally learned this tune.
I tried it with my "old" laptop & had some issues, so I've just been getting by with what I can do w/Youtube (e.g., slowing to .75 or .50 and looping).
I know exactly what you mean - many sound much better to me played at .75!
Maybe it's time for me to revisit the Amazing Slow Downer.
Thanx, Greg!

i havent been successful with it on my computer, but the phone version works great. i think you have to purchase the full version..phone is probably around 5.00 but im guessing. not sure about the desktop version. the only gripe i have about youtube is the slow down feature is incremental. its either 70 or 50 . pickey i know.. most of my play along stuff happens from the phone bluetoothed to a speaker.

@ELCBK and others..this is one more podcast ive found recently thats more general in music generes....this particular episode is the first of 2 with Kevin Burke which is very interesting..after an initial tune it goes into how he started with classical and moves into his meeting Arlo Gutherie and starting his career. This podcast (many episodes) is more than trad music though. he talks with luthiers and classical muscians as well so a variety. a good listen during the drive to/from work or during the time this kinda thing would fill..Ill say.. not sure if link will work since i use the google podcast app but its the Rosin The Bow cast..

Great Link - pulled up a whole list & I see Winifred Horan, too 💖, just using my laptop/windows10!
Kevin Burke influenced by Arlo Guthrie - wow, used to listen to his music at a girlfriend's house (after school) when we were kids.
Hmm... that friend lives less than 5 minutes away from me, now (1 of a handful of friends I still have from very early school)! Arlo Guthrie and Lava Lamps!
Thanx, Greg!

@ELCBK yeah..he is a great story teller..he got to talking about his ..i assume but he never said..(unless it was when the deer ran in front of me..no accident..just coffee everywhere.)...was his first trip to the States and went to a recording session..this album had people like Clarance White and Ry Cooder involved which he wasnt familiar with.. the talk was about how he (Burke) thought a slide guitar player would be an interesting fit and someone said Ry would be able to do that..he asked if he was any good .. lots of that kind of talk.

The Kevin Burke interview - I finally made time last night to listen to all of both parts.
Can't believe it, but after listening to a few samples, I had to buy both cds! Could only get a used cd of the one Burke did with Arlo Guthrie - was tempted to buy the Lp just because of the "quadraphonic sound". Guess I'll have to wait/see how good the cd sounds.
And then... Burke's twist on Jimmy Hendrix! Never thought I'd ever hear that.
Wow! Going to take some time for me to listen to all those other great interviews.
Pretty amazing!

Emily @ELCBK I downloaded sailors bonnet..most of the album is included in prime so Ill check more tracks out over time. And Yeah the Hendrix part was cool. I think I what was most interesting to me was him describing his teachers family and how they came to be teaching. And the part where his fiddle started coming apart during a performance. 🙂 The way he described it with that dry sense of humor...
The host reminds me of Garrison Keillor from Praire Home Companion.

@ABitRusty - I agree with you whole heartedly!
Yes, like Garrison Keillor - My parents listened all the time (I caught it too).
This interview became a mini oral biography, the music really came in second.
I probably appreciate Kevin Burke's dry sense of humor because just about everyone close to me has it, except me.(lol) Thinking much more now about Kevin Burke than just "hey, he's a good traditional Irish fiddler". I truely enjoyed the peak inside his head and the glimpse of his World!
1st Blue Moon on Halloween in 76 years, tonight!
Make a wish!

Come to think of it, I don't believe I've ever met a person, willing to share a little, that didn't have an interesting story...

"The Pound Ridge Sessions" (Kevin Burke/fiddle and John Brennan/multiple instruments) cd came in the mail the other day.
I hope everyone samples/streams these tunes!🤗
This can be done at amazon.com
"Easy listening" music, a little of everything - I was pleasantly surprised!🥰
(I do prefer a different version of "Lonesome Moonlight Waltz" with double stops.)
Should get the Kevin Burke/Arlo Guthrie cd next week - can't wait!

@elcbk haha..yeah the mode talk at the beginning was cool. I think i enjoyed his story as much as anything though. how he went from a school in Europe to where he is now. most of that was more toward last half and is alot about how music has been part of where he is now. Im not sure there is alot to LEARN techinically speaking in this podcast, but the stories around each guest are interesting to me. plus the general talk about music, sometimes specific tune history, but mostly peoples views and experiences with traditional music. Liams episode is a good example.

Sorry, brain moves faster than my fingers typing. (lol)
So, should've mentioned I really enjoyed his story and the music Liam played - especially Castle Kelly's (I'm a Kelly now - yay) and his The Broken Parts/The Maids of Michelstown.
Seriously think it's very cool that from now on, whenever I see a Simpsons cartoon or GIF, I'll be thinking... Lydian mode!
Stuck in your mind, yet?

@elcbk you seem to be a lydian fan! or a simpsons fan..not sure yet..the gifs are throwing me. do alot of the Sweedish tunes sound lydian to you? Modes seemed like a requirement when I was more immeresed in guitar learning but not as much with fiddle. Im aware a little more on whats happening but just hasnt seemed as important when playing straight up melodies and not trying to back anything or improvise on the fly. also, even though im learning more by ear, most things ive learned have been from sheet music so..the notes are there already on the paper.. and not having to figure out the scale or key.
