As much as I love the fiddlerman forum, the fiddlerchat pop up has made it pure hell to try and get on here.. I have to deal with it everytime and log out of it..this time I tried signing out and it just kept popping up and blocking the screen. Maybe its my old windows XP, I dont know, but having to constantly deal with it has gotten quite annoying.
So if Im not on as much its because I hate dealing with the chat pop up for 5 minutes everytime I log in
PS. it also freezes the forum while it loads, then if I click on a post,it starts all over again until it loads the chat

I don't have the window pop up as much when I log in and out, but it does slow everything down, a lot of times it does make it freeze, usually when I try to write a post. There are a lot of wasted minutes. I don't know what browser your using, but I can't even use Firefox or IE with this forum, Chrome is the only one that works more or less, but I still have the freezing issues.

I don't have any problems with it when I'm on my laptop, it just opens to the side of the screen out of the way. But on my iPad it opens up whenever it wants and hijacks my screen, and won't close out. It makes browsing a bit difficult.

I haven't had any issues with it (other than some login issues initially, but those have been resolved). I've also noticed that it does slow down page loading just a tad, but it doesn't block pages for me. I mostly use Firefox, and occasionally Chrome.
Generally, I like the new chat better than the old Chatango chat. And there's more activity lately, probably because it's right there on every page...like the old chat was originally. Chatting had ground to a halt when it was moved to a stand-alone page.
For what it's worth, you can turn off the chat.

Well, I don't think there is ever going to be a chat that works perfect for everyone.
Yeah, I've noticed the slow-down, as it basically loads again every time one goes to a different forum page. But I'm not in *that* much of a hurry most days. LOL
Functionality with the new chat seems similar for me to the old chatango one, but without the random strangers from heaven knows where hitting on you when you are chatting about violins/fiddles with friends. LOL
It works. Not perfect, but nothing ever is likely to be.
Like anything new, it will take some getting used to.

I can turn it off, I timed it..takes four minutes from sign in ,freezes,chat loading until I can shut it off..even then it stays at the bottom of the screen with a bubble message that keeps popping up to sign in..lol.
Now you can say whats 4 minutes, but if Im in an active conversation and I sign in 10 times that day,thats 40 minutes of log in time.
I know we cant please everyone, but at least with the other chats I could ignore them and they didnt effect the forum

I don't even know how to turn off the chat. When I look at the lower right corner, there it is and always showing 15 or 20 people logged on, but when I open it, there's no one there. Is this chat connected to another and the 15 or 20 people from another chat program ?
I haven't noticed it slowing down my computer, but what I have noticed slowing down my load time is waiting for all the "honor" badges to load. I have a few do me but don't want them, there's enough lag time as it is.

Until a few days ago, I would have said that the most annoying chat feature is that it seems to pop up with little gurgling noises periodically. I really dislike those sound effects - even when I turn the chat sound off, it soon turns itself back on. Just as even when I attempt to close the chat, it still pops up and makes the horrible sounds.
However, since the computer updated itself to Windows 10 a few days ago, I haven't noticed the annoying sound effects. Will be watching to see if the sound reappears. It would be great if the Windows 10 update has taken care of it. I don't really mind the little chat button in the corner, but I can't stand those sound effects, and I don't want to turn off all sound on the computer.

@Barry I have been having trouble with it too. THE reason why I haven't posted much this past week. It is a pain!!

My two cents:
When I am at work. If I just read the forums not logged in .. the chat is okay.. works well. If I log in to the forum as I am now.. I can read and reply easily. But the moment that go to chat .. it becomes a pain..... I can't chat and go back to posting..it keeps popping up even if I put it on the side. So I obviously don't chat until I am caught up with posts. I work on MAC at work. (and its not super updated.. grumble).
My home laptop PC the chat is just fine.. stays to the side and all is well. It is older with Windows 7 on it. My problem is that it is older and slower.. but the chat part works fine.
I like the old chat.. BUT ONLY when it was imbedded in the site.. otherwise when it needed a plug in.. I could not chat at work.
Anyway I can talk with you all is work a bit of a pain....so I am not complaining.. just my input.

so, this is what I found works the best for me..when I go to the forum, before logging in, I wait for the chat to load, then turn off chat and log in..only take about a minute this way and then I can post with out it constantly loading..the welcome to fiddlechat bubble still pops up, but I can live with that

I use the forum on my ipad and when i'm scrolling and then randomly the screen is over taken by the chat. It's annoying, especially if i'm trying to post. On the normal pc at work it pops up and i can get rid of it quite easily but on the ipad, one wrong move and there it is taking over the place.

turning it "off" never really makes it go away..its still at the bottom of the screen and the bubble pops up everytime you go to a new post..then you have to click the little X until the next post.. if you log in (well,for me) to the forum without taking the time to open it up and turn it off,since it signs you in automatically and names you Bob,Kelsey,or Bo..then it keeps reloading

I don't know these things because the chat is on the side for me and if I turn it off, it doesn't pop up again.
The sound when turned off doesn't turn back on either. I'll work on a few things and can hopefully make it better. I contacted a programer to design a chat feature for us but I don't foresee it taking over all that soon. Lot's of work ahead before it's up to par.

I tried turning off the chat on my ipad to see what it would do, and it didn't pop open after I did that. After it sat for a while it refreshed and was logged in again, but I would think that probably has more to do with cookie settings than the chat. I prefer for it to log me in, though, I just logged out to test it, lol. Most of the time I am on here is when I'm at work

So is the chat gone now?
If so that makes me grumpy!!!
Everyone complained enough to warrant taking it away???
It wasn't great but it was a way to talk violin and meet people ... Some of us like / need/ interaction and violin friends....it's helpful. I hope this is temporary.
