The past week or so I've had a few mornings where I could not connect with this forum, or any area of the fiddlerman.com website (videos, blog, news, etc.). A couple of times it lasted a few hours. Don't think the problem was on my side since I was able to connect everywhere else on the internet. Anyone else experience this? Is the forum experiencing outages?

This morning was the first time I noticed a problem connecting in quite a while. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention other days this past week.

Yes, I've had a lot of problems to get onto the site.

Probably something @Fiddlerman needs to check with his hosting provider.

For the last few days (week, even), I have found that when logging on around 6am UK time (say 1am EST) I get a timeout when trying to load the forum page (my auto-default login page - gets loaded automatically when I switch on the laptop !!!)

It EVENTUALLY clears - sorry - can't be specific about the actual time it's down for, but I'm pretty sure it sticks like that for around an hour....

I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh - guntohead.JPG

Odd - the "posts" counter didn't update - it was "Posts: 96851" before the above post, and still is....   I'll check again after this post....

The format on my phone changed yesterday is it my end or was there a change I no longer have the newest posts, tune of the week, etc. and the chat channel on the right side on my phone screen?

@BillyG It lasts at least 2 1/2 hours because I have tried from around 1:30am EST through 3:30am EST and had the issue you describe. The blog and Fiddlershop were fine, just no forum. I did give that time frame to Fiddlerman.

I think I have tried it around 4:15am EST, with the same result, but not positive.

I HAVE been able to log in at 6am EST.

Yup @Mouse - thanks for the feedback...  and yes - I have looked somewhat more closely at this, and I have seen extended periods - from 5am (UK) to around 9am - close on 4 hours - although commonly it is less.  As to "when" in my timezone the outage started (like if it happened before 5am) - well I can't tell, although, 5am here is midnight EST (I think) - and I originally just put it down to "maintenance" or a "good time to do upgrades" when there were fewer users around...  :)

I was chatting (well, email) with Pierre @Fiddlerman- and I have written a little program to access the forum 24/7, repeatedly, once a minute, and collect status in a log file- it won't solve the problem, but it may give a pointer as to when, how frequently, and for how long these outages occur - :)

forum-test.JPG

It will perhaps help to shed some light on the issue (at least in so far as it is affected by time of day and so on).  What I find here is that once it comes up - it appears to stays up for the rest of my day (like until 8pm here), although of course, I'm not always at the computer - so I could miss outages - hence my little test program....

[ Just out of interest - the "error" line counts failures to find the forum title in the loaded page (if it loaded at all), gateway timeout errors (which I observe here if I wait long enough) and finally "unexpected errors" (meaningful to me) ]

So @Fiddlerman - I'll leave this running 24/7 and occasionally inspect the log file.....  It might be interesting overnight (assuming no fix found by then) - but then again - it may tell us nothing particularly helpful...  Still, worth doing... never know...

I'm glad you noticed Mark. That was me. Do you like it or not?
I chose to have one column instead of 2. I was wondering what people would prefer.

@Mouse - Hopefully your notes do not apply to today. We found that we were having dns resolving issues which have been taken care of.

Thank you guys so much for keeping an eye on the forum and letting me know of it's issues.

Presently I'm working on a better theme which will line up the badges horizontally above the posts as before. This is a completely new version, not just an update, built with rewritten code by SimplePress.

Read more about it here:
https://simple-press.com/versi.....available/

This has nothing to do with the issues that we have been having with our domain though I have been working on it on a test site which is on the same server.

@Fiddlerman  I’m hoping not to be on at those wee EST hours any longer. Last night I did not try, as I did not have to get up. I have been ill for a couple weeks and getting up early, and just checking the site and noticed it for the last couple weeks. Hoping I am not having to do that any longer. 😁

I am sure you will get it all straightend out and squared away.

I like the idea of having the badges side by side. There is so much scrolling down to get to a post, and then again to get to a reply. thumbs-up

Perrie, either one is fine with me just have to go to forum page and look for new posts or go to a different post the up side I don't have as many pages to back out of when I go back to the browser front page.

@Fiddlerman , this morning (meaning around 7 to 9 am French time, when it did not work previously) the forum was working all good.

Agreed for the badges… right now all your posts are 1 kilometer long regardless of what you write, @BillyG's too ;)

Thanks. I still want a discussion about it.

What do you other members think? One column or two for the mobile version?

As of now 96865, and that would make 14 more posts. :)

Which means that I should either write super long replies or not say anything at all. LOL

roflroflSuper-long replies are always good @Fiddlerman !!!!!  (It lets us "see into that musical mind of yours" and how you see things) from a different perspective.

Yup - and that's the point  - we all see / understand / appreciate things from a slightly different perspective, and a fundamentally different knowledge base.     Nothing wrong at all with lengthy posts ! Helps us all :)
