Aloha @Shane,
I don't have any problems on any of my Macs, iPads, or iPhone (Sorry, I just couldn't resist!)
In all seriousness, your issue is a little strange, in that some of the videos on this site are YouTube videos. Are you precluded from watching all of the videos on this site, or just some of them? I don't think it's a codec issue, as you're able to watch streaming video from other sources. Please indicate which videos are unplayable on your devices so we can narrow down potential problem areas and be better able to assist you.

Hi Shane.
Windows 8.1 here as well, but no issues with video. I use Firefox as my default browser, but just checked and have no issues in IE, Chrome or any other browsers I have installed (I keep multiples installed to check any web work I do doesn't have weird browser specific glitches).
Maybe check if your browser / plugins etc need an update to start with, could be that.

Thanks ibud and caterwaul. To answer your questions, none of the videos will play from this site. Neither the tutorials nor those posted by members. The latest, and one that drove me to ask for help was a post from Bunkie playing Sibelius on an MJZ 909. I update regularly, although I haven't installed Tuesday's update yet. I'm using the metro internet app, I'm going to try running them from the desktop. Maybe that's the problem. Thanks again.

Caterwaul, I have a windows phone too. I just tried and the videos play on it. It must be some setting I have on my computer and tablet. I'm going to try my work computer today, if it works there, I can see what settings are different.
As a side note, you're only the second other person I've 'met' with a windows phone. I'm afraid they are going to fade away, which is too bad.
@iBud, I'm surrounded, by Apple people. For some reason that makes me more determined to stick with Windows. But, with technology I have a knack for picking the losing side. For example, this may date me, but I had a Beta VCR.

Aloha @Shane,
Wow - a Betamax! Actually, even though we didn't have one (we didn't even have a TV for years), all of my friends that owned one said that it was the better format, but the porn industry has their money in VHS, which is why Betamax lost. I don't know if there is any truth to that story, but that reasoning came around again with Bluray vs. HD DVD. Your reference to Betamax actually dates the both of us, as I remember it as well
Where do you work? It sounds absolutely delightful hahaha I am the opposite of you, as I am referenced as the "Token Mac Dude" here at work. I am surrounded by Windows people, and as a matter of fact, depend on Windows (along with Solaris and RHEL) for my job. I work in IT and have to support all flavors of Windows. I just say that Microsoft provides my paycheck, but my preference is a "real" OS, Mac OS, which I use at home
To make it worse, I am retired US Navy and work with a bunch of retired US Army types.
I constantly have to keep them in step with me and have to teach them English (Navy English, that is). They still don't know the location of the head and the scuttlebutt, but I"m working on that.
To each their own, however. OSs are kind of like religions - if what you have and use works, more power to you. I have my preferences and they work for me. Unfortunately, I can't provide any assistance with your issue. We don't normally allow the (military) units that train at my building access the internet, unless an internet cafe has been requested, but we have had no issues with streaming video as of yet. Of course, you mentioned that you're running Windows 8.1, which he US Army hasn't deployed as of yet. We're up to Windows 7 with the Army Gold Master build, but even with all of the security fixes and tweaks applied, there has been no issue with streaming video from any website used thus far. I think you're right in that you should check the settings of both your work computer and your home computer if, in fact, you can watch the videos on your work computer.
One other thing I failed to ask you is whether you have seen any error windows and, if so, the syntax of the error or warning statement. Oftentimes, that can provide at least the first step in determining the cause, and possible solution, of the problem.
Good luck and I hope you find the answer to this issue. I know how frustrating it can be when something just doesn't work correctly, or at all (the reason I switched to the Mac in the first place).

@iBud, I'm ex-navy too. I did 6 years as a nuke mm. I served on the USS California CGN-36. I'm a priest now, so we don't do any heavy computing, just word processing and calculating the number of angels dancing on the heads of pins. It doesn't work on my office computer either. I have a friend ill get to give it a look. I was hoping it might be a simple, common problem, guess not. Thanks for the input.

Aloha @Shane,
When you say it "doesn't work", whited you mean, exactly? Does an error window pop up, or do you get an error code in the browser window? As it doesn't work on your office computer, my assumption would be that the issue lies with your computer setup, as others with Windows 8.1 do not have the same issue, although you mentioned your tablet as well. I'm just taking a stab in the dark here, but when was the last time you updated your OS on each of your devices?
I did a full 22 years, but successfully avoided nuke school. I was told that I would have to endure 2 years of math in A school, and math has never really been my friend. I ended up going to boot camp with no plan, as I was told I could apply for an audition for the Navy band at boot camp, another lie told me by my recruiting office. It turned out OK, as I went to the Airman apprentice school and was shipped out the the USS Eisenhower (CVN-69). I got to work on the flight deck in V-1 Division, which was really cool. That caused me to seek out Air Traffic Controller school, but I wasn't cut out for that, so I switched to Cryptologic Technician, Interpretive (CTI) and stayed there until I retired. Had I not made that choice, I would never have met my wife, so that is one decision I'm really glad I made! Thanks to the Navy, I've visited nearly every continent (only missed South American and Antarctica), albeit in only 3- and 6-day chunks.
Wow, so you went from being a nuke to a priest. Talk about changing your surroundings! You can certainly use your violin in church. I understand what you mean about your computing use and hope you can figure this out.

ibud, and fiddlerman, to answer your questions: when a video is posted, my computer shows a blank space the same size that the video would be. It does this on the store site, and Shari music site as well. I use internet explorer 11 my computers and tablets all have the latest updates. I haven't tried any other browsers. I've looked through the settings in internet options and can't figure it out. Thanks for replying and any ideas would be appreciated.

Sorry for taking so long to get back on this issue. I fixed the problem by taking Fiddlerman's advice and switching to Firefox. However, after using Firefox for a while I really didn't like it, sorry fiddlerman. It was kind of awkward in windows 8 for me, I lost some of the touch screen functionality and it only worked from the desktop and not as the internet explorer metro app does from the start screen. So, I went back to trying to figure out why it wouldn't work. I eventually found that it was an add on I had called "stop Google tracking" it was blocking all you tube videos imbedded in other sites, but would let me watch them from you tube. I disabled the app and now everything works fine. The only thing is, now Google is watching me. I guess I can live with that as long as I can watch the forum videos.

Google is one of the tracker/cookie sources here. Others I see regularly are (done as a graphic to avoid having links to them):
I don't know what they might do for the site if they are intentionally included by Pierre.
I don't keep up as much on spyware/malware alerts since I switched to linux from windows a few years ago, so I don't know if any of them is considered a "threat". But it is not just youtube and google that track here.
