I'm a bit spoiled in that I live in a city with several world-class coffee roasters, and some of them have free coffee tastings once or twice a month. I probably get about three-quarters of my coffee beans from Temple Coffee, which produces several of Coffee Review's top-rated coffees every year.

I tend to prefer light to medium roasts, and overall I tend to prefer East African coffees which often have berry and chocolate flavor notes, though I enjoy coffees from all the major coffee growing regions. I take my coffee black if it's a high quality light or medium roast, otherwise with a bit of milk or half & half. I'll add sugar if I have to resort to instant coffee or gas station coffee. I usually use a French press at home, and have a drip coffee maker for days I'm too busy or tired to clean the French press.

Has anyone (besides me) tried the Fiddlershop coffee?

Yep. I liked it. I did go through it rather quickly because I like it a little bolder than it made with the regular amount of coffee made for the amount I make. It has a nice flavor though.

This was a fun topic to bring forward. I did not read every post.

This is hilarious. I totally forgot about this. I'm still huge into coffee but trying to reduce my consumption drastically.
My set up is quite elaborate.

I drink too much coffee, but what can I say? I like it with plenty of cream and if it is a 12oz mug, 5 Equal packets.

No sweetener for me. b-slap

Fun topic, @Fiddlerman! I cannot believe this topic has gone 4 pages!

Coffee is so much fun. I wish I could drink as much as I wanted to without any negative consequences. begcoffee2coffee

Hey, Fiddlerman, a few years ago, the very first time you called me about being an admin, and I was cutting up a watermelon, you told me how you make a smoothie or some drink out of watermelon. I wrote it down, but lost it, could you please give it to me again? Thanks.

From what I recall, we just cut the watermelon and but it in the blender with fresh mint. That is super good. Not sure if you need anything else, but if it's not sweet enough for you, you could add agave.

Something else I've noticed is that it's getting harder and harder to find supermarket coffee that is 100% Arabica.

I don't know how hard it is to get a hold of green coffee in your area but I've been roasting my own coffee for about 30 years. Try searching for green coffee and consider roasting the coffee yourself. Obviously Arabica is the way to go. :)

Otherwise, maybe you are too advanced for getting your coffee at the supermarket. The supermarket, at least in the US, is geared towards the mainstream purchaser. I can find great roasted arabica blends here in the US, but mostly online.

We purchase our green coffee from this companies syster company for commercial sales. https://www.sweetmarias.com/

You have a rather large selection of roasted coffee here:
https://www.wholelattelove.com.....all-coffee

For Fiddlershop Coffee, which I might add is 100% Arabica, use this link:

EVERYTHING is 'bad' for us now-a-days... even the water. 😒😖

VERY true. Sometimes what we find out is good for us today is bad for us tomorrow.

We've been using the AeroPress for quite a few years now, for less acidity - huge difference.  Used to do the inverted method, then last year I noticed they came out with a valved cap, so don't have to now - easy for stronger coffee.  Still like the paper filters over the wire mesh.

AeroPress is great.

Have had several burr grinders over the years.  My favorite (using now) is this small expresso bean mill for a fine grind - rechargeable.

There is no other acceptible option in my mind. Must be a burr grinder and you should be able to grind fine enough that the machine makes a slow, say, 25 to 35 second draw. That extracts the most taste from the bean. :)

If you have an espresso machine capable of creating enough even pressure, you can have an equally nice burr grinder to get that extra fine unheated freshly roasted coffee.

We've tried different fresh roasted beans locally (in Michigan), but my favorite for the last 6 months has been Fiddlershop & Friends Coffee 'Tchaikoffee' Dark Roast

Thank you so much Emily. We take coffee VERY seriously, and being the coffee nerd that I am, have had a huge impact on my people. LOL

Coffee in the AF was really hard to stomach... period.

My folks were very serious about coffee being good enough to drink 'black' - don't know what happened to me...  I add a little of my protein drink now (vanilla, chocolate, or Premier Protein's 'Pumpkin Spice' during the holidays) & a touch of a Jordan's Sugar-free Syrup.

Interesting that you say that. I do add collagen to my morning coffee. Mostly for the health benefits but it could be better for my stomach. No idea.

I do LOVE many different teas, including chai - all loose-leaf.

So, two cups-worth of coffee in the morning, once in a while tea in the afternoon - not looking for a caffeine buzz.

...Kevin & I both have fond memories of the smell of Maxwell House coffee percolating on top of the stove. 😊

coffee

LOL, I remember that aroma from my childhood and my parents as well.

Yes! That was it! I will have to get some mint when we go out shopping Wednesday. Probably another watermelon, too. Thanks.

💖 Glad you mentioned this!

I add a hydrolized collagen, also... but was afraid I'd gross everyone out if I said it. 🤣  People have proclaimed I can't possibly taste the coffee (because I add things)... not so!

Hmmm, Mmmmm. I am sipping a cup of coffee right now. Mm m good.

I was out on my deck, but  got too hot, even in the little bit of shade. So, what do I do? I come in and have a hot cup of coffee. I should have made it strong, then added ice to make it ice coffee. I would make coffee ice cubes, but it would stain the ice cube tray.

Hmmm. I need to get ice cube trays and just use those for coffee. I should do that before my daughter and son-in-law get here. I think she likes ice coffee. I bet she know the right way to make it, and an easy way.

The way to make it is to fill your glass with ice, then pour the coffee over it. However, you are using brewed coffee right? I pour espresso over the ice.

If you are using brewed coffee, simply allow it to cool first then pour it over the ice. Remember that coffee has a lot of water in it anyway. Just need a stronger coffee over your ice if it's too weak.

Hope this is helpful.

Never heard of anyone making frozen coffee cubes to use in place of ice cubes. I'm fairly certain that this would work but it's not the way it's done as far as I know.

Something you can make if you know how to cook with sugar is espresso boiled sweets. Or buy them, as I do, but they are uncommon.

Never heard of them. I try to avoid sugar but I'll look into that.

Espresso is probably my wishful thinking, but anyway "coffee flavoured hard candy" at least. But if you've cut down on sugar, best avoided.

Coffee addict here.. I prefer a full bodied roast, just black, but on occasion a nice White Chocolate and Coconut Latte hits the spot!

@Kennon I am not sure how anyone can drink it black. Maybe, Imjust like an excuse to have some half and half! Nah, I just like it to be creamy.

It would be so much easier to like it black. When I go to one of my brother's houses, he always outs the half and half in. He outs a couple drops, just to the start ofmthe color change. I keep forgetting to decline the cup of coffee. Maybe, it is a socializing thing, 😁. But, I don't know why people do not let guests put their own creamer and sweetener into their coffee. I do.

And do not even get me started on coffee with milk in it! Yuck! I will not have coffee at another brother's house, they use milk. Just half and half and Equal.

Does anyone like coffee when it is used in baked good for flavoring? I have never tried it, but I have seem recipes. I never make them because, who knows how strong it needs to me. Saying 1 cup strong coffee is relative to the person who drinks coffee. I suspect the strength I make is strong for some, and weak for others. Since I do not like robust coffee, I would assume mine would not be considered strong, just middle range. Not making a pot of strong coffee just to get one cup for a recipe. Probably not a big deal, but all that work to find your coffee was not strong enough to add its flavor to the baked item? I am inherently lazy, so not willing to try recipes calling for coffee. 😂😂 I will enjoy my coffee in a cup with half and half and Equal. Nice and creamy.
