I make good money doing storm restoration work. Fixing powerlines. I used to wish and hope for storms, severe storms, I don't wish and hope for that anymore. I look at approaching storms on radar and hope everyone in the path is in a safe place. I was in New Orleans when Rita came ashore to the west of us. My room mate in the hotel had never been in a Hurricane, he is a Missouri native. He asked what a Hurricane was like. I told him it was just like a tornado, but it lasts for 6 or 7 hours! lol.

Hey guys, don't even try to joke about this. I don't know what the situation is at present, but Queensland was nearly blown and washed off the map earlier this year, so it might be your turn. Plenty of people still have nowhere to live, and insurance is questionable. The long term situation is not worth thinking about. I hope you're all safe.
If you think you can, or you think you can't, you're probably right.

My house is 100 years old....and as a result of its age, and since we're in Florida where we barely have any insurance carriers who are willing to write policies, my insurance is pretty high...so it darn well better cover it. We have a flat roof over an enclosed porch in the back of the house, and it leaks like crazy every time there is a heavy rain (which has been pretty frequently lately, much to the delight of my flowers). I was just hoping maybe some of the shingles would, you know, blow away in a high wind....and then, perhaps unrealistically, hoping that my insurance would actually pay for it to be re-done. As I said, I realize it's not probably the best thing to wish for due to the collateral damage that would also be sustained in a heavy wind. Just a fantasy that perhaps I could somehow get a "free" roof. I really don't need a 300 year old oak tree to fall on the place, or our trampoline to fly away and wreck the neighbor's house.
