Violaman.com is down.Fess up ... who broke it?
Oh, I thought it showed up that way on purpose - something to do with violists thought processes!
One can only hope that it crashed due to the legions of people signing up and voting.
BTW, yesterday when I clicked the link to the contest thread, it took me to a functional page. It was the only way I could get to anything other than that weird dashboard page.

I wonder why anyone would hack a music teaching site!
After earning a Masters Degree and several years of working as a therapist, I have learned that, for the most part, there is no rhyme or reason for what people do. The person who hacked into the server probably did because he or she could.

Huh. I've come to the opposite conclusion: there's almost always a reason for people to do something. The challenge is figuring out what it is because, frequently, it is buried under a lot of other stuff.
I agree that the site was probably hacked just because someone wanted to see if zie could do it. That can be reason enough sometimes.

Well, I guess that I did 'mis-speak'. There always is a reason. I guess that I should have said that the reason hardly ever matters. You can spend 3 years in therapy to realize that you engaged in some negative behavior because you were treated like crap in third grade but that isn't going to magically change your behavior. For most people, insight does not equal change (I am NOT a huge fan of Freud!!!).

Exactly Cherie!
Most people don't need to know why they did stuff, they nead a reason to stop that is better or more compelling than their desire to continue. Inertia is a powerful force!

Yeah, I wouldn't exactly call Freud a scientist. I'm not sure he really knew what he was doing.
While insight doesn't magically produce change on its own that does not mean that it doesn't matter in most cases. Since people are wired to think in terms of cause and effect it can complete a narrative. It can allow people to accept something and deal with it so that they can move forward, if that is what they need to do. It can help generate empathy between people by putting their choices or behaviors within a context. It can inform how one moves forward. So it is useful to ask "why" and seriously consider the answers so as to tailor the solution to the problem and the individual.
The biggest benefit, I think, though, is that it prevents people on the outside from assuming they know all they need to about another being.
*shrugs* That's just how I've always understood it.
