On a related note:

A few weeks ago, I had this very thin, very hunger, very desperate, and very pregnant, little cat walk up to me on my front porch late on a Friday afternoon.  I fed her (she ate a lot, shaking, like she hadn’t eaten in a week), and then I called my county Animal Control who told me if he came & got her, she’d just be in a cage all weekend.  I told him I’d take care of her through the weekend. 

Because of being short staffed (and overworked—springtime – lots of abandoned, neglected animals), the Animal Control officer did not make it out to pick her up until Tuesday. 

He told me that, normally, Animal Control has to hold them for 7 days (to give owner a chance to retrieve – didn’t really think that was going to happen here), & then they release for adoption or to one of the rescue organization.  However, they would release early for medical reasons (pregnancy is a medical reason).  I hoped she’d get pulled out by a rescue—but I knew they were overwhelmed as well.  There is only so much space.

Please, please have pets Spayed/Neutered.  And tell everyone you know to have pets Spayed/Neutered.
