A kong time ago, on this forum, before a lot of you were members, there was a regular who had volumes 1-4 pf these for sale and a duplicate #1, and Robert Gogans's 130 Great Irish Ballads. I bought the lot.

They were not spiral bound and the binding was such that opening them and keeping them open was not going to happen without breaking the spine, thereby, losing loose pages. The seller had never opened them either because there was not sign the books were ever opened.

Anyway, today, I finally got them spiralized! So cool. These books are great. They afe not just the ballads, etc. There are stories to go with each piece. Also, there are old photos. Love it. I cannot wait to try some of these out.

8pIn thumbing through all the years I have had them, they are doable. I have seen these books elsewhere, since I purchased these. 😁

Oh Wow! @stringy Ine of the songs in Volume 3 is Wild Rover!

I will take photos of the covers soon, for you @stringy . The 130 Great Irish Ballads has more info than the set of 4 and the duplicate  #1 of the 4.

I went through them all site reading, My left upper arm and wrist are extremely sore now.

I don't think there will be a problem if I list all of the songs for you, I just can't send photos of the pages. Not tonight though. My left arm is really sore.

@Mouse -

Very cool!  I LOVE ballads!

@stringy -

I did a search for Old English Ballads (quite a while back, think we were talking about murder ballads somewhere), but got discouraged since most of the beautiful/ornate books only had lyrics!

I normally think of John Playford's "The Dancing Master" Volumes for English tunes, but I did save a link to a cool book you can view free on the Internet Archive - Popular music of the olden time : a collection of ancient songs, ballads, and dance tunes, illustrative of the national music of England : with short introductions to the different reigns, and notices of the airs from writers of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries : also a short account of the minstrels - by W. Chappell & G.A. Macfarren
