I see that I am not the only one who tends to use the sofa as just another table top.
I am also prone to crafty solutions for things like that, but in this case, I just bought a music stand, so I could stand and play in an area of my dinning room, that is now half music room.
I do like your music stand solution though. My first music stand was the top of one of my computers (I have three computer workstations - not including my lap, for the laptop PC) here in the living room. That play area was not ideal though. It was too cramped. I have more elbow room in the dining area, and better lighting.
I have too many computers to make a music area in my living area, and now music may be taking over my dining area. I may have to learn to eat standing up.

@mryikes I am sorry to hear that your are retiring your stand and that it feels like loosing an old friend. Maybe recycle a bit of it for another use...bookmarker or print and frame a picture. I hope you get a new stand and have another new friend with new memories.
Cheers.
