From the fb fail thread (post 3):

David Burns said:

On a side note, I overheard Fiddlerman discussing a new banner for the site. With your background in backgrounds (see what I did there) maybe you guys could collaborate on a new banner.

^ I can't remember where or when but I remember something about a new banner too. So I figured I'd start a new thread dedicated towards this.

It's pretty late here so I cant practise my violin and I dont want to do catch up study because I cant focus and I have a short attention span. So I threw around a few ideas and heres a rough sketch of what I came up with for the rumored new banner (it is a very very very rough sketch, did it in like 5 mins flat) its back to front because I took the picture with my web cam:

That's beautiful. If you can do that in 5 minutes imagine what you could do taking more time. smile

I would like to have a different banner every month to make the site look fresh.

The header should be 940 × 198 pixels, and I would like it to say Fiddlerman.com
I can use my own logo that I made in just about any picture I get but it would obviously cover some stuff up. I kind of liked the f hole for fiddlerman and com like I did in the present header but maybe it's lame. I'm not really a graphics guy.

Thanks for that post Chinny

^ maybe photoshopping photographs would be better then.

What if you got a bunch of new banners, including your current one too, and got them to rotate pictures everytime someone came to this site. it has something to do with the html code but i cant remember exactly how to do it anymore.

Hmmm ... think I missed something.

Why do you need a new banner?

I used to run fake banner ads on my web site. I can't remember where I found the code. They were joke ads for tools and services for linemen. That was 7 or 8 years ago. I had to get rid of the web site after threats from my employer. No sense of humor at all! I know I used Microsoft Office Frontpage to set up the site, and there was a site for all kinds of javascript applets and html code scripts. It has been so long, I don't even remember how to do the simplest thing in html anymore.

You don't need to know as much html today David. There are so many great programs today. I believe 8 years ago, you still had to know a lot of scripts. It obviously helps to know it when you get problems.

I use to use html code a couple of years back, if you ever need to use it, just google it and copy and paste. Voila you're good to go!

Maybe there should be themes for the banners? October could be a spooky theme! I would totally dig a black and orange one. They're pretty easy to whip up in gimp too.dancinbunnydancinbunnydancinbunnydancinbunny

I think changing banners for different holidays and stuff is a great idea. I also think fiddlerman.com has a pretty good site design the way it is too though.

Besides writing songs I've been a graphic designer since 1982 and web design since the early nineties before people thought AOL was the internet (I'm getting old but still feel 18 ;-)  jimi-hendrix

Well if you do decide to change the banner and go with holiday or seasonal themes why not add music to fit that theme like for halloween some spooky creepy music. That would be so much fun to play behind someone at a party!!!! devil-violindevil-violindevil-violindevil-violindevil-violindevil-violindevil-violindevil-violindevil-violindevil-violindevil-violindevil-violindevil-violindevil-violin

I second it.

One thing I always tried to do was to make pages that load quickly. I know of at least on person on the forum on a dial-up connection. If you make pictures too large (file size, not so much physical size) and put music in the background it would take a long time to load. You really don't want your home page to be a slow load for the people on dial-up. It is easy to forget how slow 56k is.lol
