But did any of my foreign Fiddlerman friends see the Olympic opening ceremony tonight?
As non-Brits, what did you think of it?
Was it what you expected from Britain?
More?
Less?

I guess we knew we couldn't compete with the financial outlay of Beijing, but on a quality level..........?

Are you entered in the violin playing competition?cheerleaderunited_kingdom-4178

I missed it but I don't watch much TV, I'm always working till dark:30 then I'm in here chatting and surfing the forum posts...confused

Maybe FM should put a YouTube streaming feed box on here for the Olympics so we don't miss anything while on the site.roflol

Terry,

I thought you were fantastic playing the keyboard in the orchestra and running on the beach.

I reply to the actual discussion, I'm still scratching my head trying to figure things out. I guess you have to be a Brit to know what was going on.

It's about 7:48am EST here and I was watching the bike races..... WHEW!!!!... long time to pedal a bike.  27mph. average speed.

I was wondering, Terry, on the roads, you have straight white line's, then all of a sudden the straight line turns to squiggly for a bit then back to straight, what is the squggly line indicate. I've never seen that here in the U.S..

Re: China Olympics, have you seen the ruins of the buildings since 2008, what a shamble's.

China has won the first gold medal in the women's shooting competition.

I can't believe the amount of people who edge themselve's into the roadway trying to get a glimpse of the biker's as they pass by. I can see how that can be a dangerous event, with the camermen on motorcycle's and being able to operate them and pan the roadway with the camera at the same time.

Thanks for hosting,   GB.

Did you see the way the crowds are for the Tour de France. They stand in the road right in front until the very last minute.

I think the squishy lines are what we call Zig-zags. They show the area before and after a pedestrian crossing where it is illegal to overtake another car, in case the other car is stopping to let someone cross the road, where the pedestrian has right-of-way.
Interesting question, we just take then for granted now

I watched the last two hours of the four hour 42 million spectacle that was IMO not as neat as the China olympics of 4 years ago. Maybe its because we are so used to non closed nation ideas of symbolism and artistic expression..dunno but can yall give up on the Beatles for petes sake, the mans like 70 or something. Put Paul out to pasture allready. Let him be, let him be.........I thought the opening with the Queen was brilliant up until the skydiving. cmon, we know its not her. And you can push Daniel out the helo without the shute for all I care. Wouldve been nice to see tiny chutes on HM corgies though. All in all I watched it and it was decent. I dont feel I wasted my time, but I was just gonna sleep anyways. I thought that was Enya singing during the torch part, dissapointingly it was not, just a sound alike. And Beckham driving a neon speedboat, really? The UK's single most recognizable sports star driving the boat?! Ahhh, but hes not an olympian and he wasnt chosen for the Brits olympic team. Ahhh, maybe he can show Sir Paul where the pasture is.....heck, there it is...center stage! No symbolic Stag? nothing of the Knights of your history? No Robin of the hood reference, Peter Pan? Thats the England and London I know. Heck, I wouldve enjoyed some Lenny Henry and Chef references, Faulty Towers, Are you being served? Dont yall have a famous Violinist even?..... now I have a headache. us-4240

Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) is an absolute genius when it come's to comedy skits. I have one of his CD's, I laugh till I can't get off the floor. "Iv'e fallen and I can't get up"

Hey Picklefish, most Brits agree with you about McCartney. As for Beckham! As a believer that football should not be an Olympic sport I don't know what the hell he was doing there at all. Just to get the English women watching I suppose.
The good thing about Her Maj skydiving, is that it shows we Brits have the ability to laugh at ourselves, and your
Jealous coz in Bond, we have the ultimate 'cool dude' lol
All in all, it was ok, but I was glad to watch a recorded version so I could FF when desired
