It seems like I have a few new members to say "Hi" to after my 2 weeks away from my Fiddlerman family.
Feel free to drop me a note to say hello or point me in the right direction of your Intro post.
I see we have a new project to crack on with, too.

Welcome back! I think if I get to go to Italy for my 50th birthday... in 3 1/4 years...then Violetta is going with me... I want to be arrested for playing the violin in a fountain...well... just kidding but I do want to knit and play the violin in Italy....is that so much to ask for ? Nice to see you!

Haha, funny!
My teacher advised me not to take it coz of the pressure and temperature in the cargo hold.
Plus a violin case in the cabin might have worried a few people! Kapeesh?

@CPO...playing the violin in a fountain!! Now that would be a story to tell the kids and grandkids...(when I get them...YEEEAAARRRSSS from now, I hope.)
@ Terry- I happen to have been away for three days, (away from my computer) and see new names and forums when I got on tonight!! Two weeks from now, we may have an extended family and step-family, lol. More the merrier!

Heard lots of great Italian music on my 'cultural' trip, but as far as having a couple of grand spare to bring back a good quality Italian instrument? Catch22, the holiday cost me the equivalent of a new violin so there were no spare Euros in my pocket to buy one.
Luckily, I didn't see any for sale so the temptation wasn't there

This thread has an interesting segue (not the two-wheeled transport, which are a kick in the ass btw), and not that the original thought of this thread isn't totally interesting, lol; but the concept of traveling with your violin.
I just got back from Hawaii on Monday and my flight back was the first time, in 40yrs of flying that I'd ever seen a violin brought into the cabin of a plane. It was GREAT to see, because I had the same concerns about traveling with one; I'd never do it because I feel about the delicacy of my violin as I do of my computer or camera; I'd NEVER port either of those in cargo.
This violin (4/4) fit just fine in the overhead and nobody, including the crew, had any problem with it being stowed there. So I'd say it's a very doing thing.
A lot of people on this site surely travel with their violins, any advice/experience???
