Anyone think that the Shoutbox feature here is way too out of hand? To me it seems some peeps would love to just chitter chatter instead of practicing a musical instrument. I tried to jump in a few times but it is not worth it to me.
I like to play music and want to learn here (which I have) but damn get rid of the shoutbox! Let's learn from each other and get rid of the shoutbox feature...Please!

I should probably clear up what I meant on the shoutbox... I see this site getting busier and I can't see FM being able to respond to all the shout outs all the time and I think FM will need some help to monitor what is said and all that jazz.
Anyone here ever use his "Donate Button" to help keep his site alive and kicking? I have and hope some of you have too. There's only so much a person can chat in a day and we're all fortunate to have FM willing to spend so much time doing so.
I just don't want to see this site getting taken over by people looking for constant freebies cause I think FM is one of the best Violinists that I have ever heard.
? Feedback to me?

I value your opinions and it is a good one. The thing for me is that I only write when I feel that I have the time. I am often online but quiet or doing something else and don't even look at it. What concerns me is if it is bothersome for anyone. This is why I turned off the sound. My thought was that if you don't hear the pooping sound you won't be prone to see what was written. Did that help at all?
Because I'm feeling very immature today, I'll just say this: I don't mind the pooping sound.

Ditto Sara, and I often don't look up to see if someone's messaged me personally while I'm looking elsewhere, so I would feel rude for not answering. I do, however, have a volume control on my computer and can mute it if required. I must say though, that I preferred the tweeting birds to the pooping sound.
If you think you can, or you think you can't, you're probably right.

As a new member I must say reading the interaction between folks on the shout out was a definite draw.
And saying hi or by when you come on or go away seems to make for a friendly atmoshere among people who share the love of mutual activity.
But if there is a way to either turn it on or turn it off, seems like that would be the fix.
No matter where you go, there you are!

I am not really sure I qualify to give an opinion on this subject since I am brand new to this site but it's nice to be able to ask a question and have it possibly answered quickly. I asked some site related questions to the members/ guests. (Ty again to IggyZuk and FiddlerMan for helping me out!!!)
I didn't have the option for sound on the box, but if I had the option for sound vs. no sound I would have it turned off like it is now. Having a shout box pooping (lol) while I was doing something would be distracting.
I noticed while you're reading a long thread the shout box stays up at the top. If it moved down the blank alley on the right while you scrolled down the threads it might help people to help other people? (Or annoy people!) I don't know if that's possible though. Just kicked out the idea.
On "Cheap eBay violins" … Just tell people they are like a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree. With a little love, and some practice, they too can be made beautiful.
