Hi, everyone! It's been awhile since I last came here. Once again I'd like to thank those who helped make my dream come true and others who supported me. I'm sorry I did not post this earlier because of school and fiddlerman, I'm actually still in high school LOL I'm not in university but I do have a lot of homework. I'm 16 this year hahaha and again THANK YOU!! I really can't wait for the violin to get here. I wonder when will it arrive

Hi Huey! (That's wonderful what you did FM and the donators). Post a pic when you get your fiddle Huey. Hope you post some videos on your progress too. I've noticed that a few members that have won the violin contests stop posting once they received their gift.
I don't think I brought any homework home by the age of 16. Keep studying but there's always time for music!

I really can't wait for it to arrive and I'm really grateful to FM and those who donated so I'll certainly make time to learn this violin. I'll definitely post a picture when I receive it but a video might have to wait because my test falls on next Wednesday so I'll be even more busy than before. I'll try my best to post my progress every week and maybe post a video too(but I might be too shy for that )Thank you!

Thanks Barry!! By the way, I received the shoulder rest already. Thank you Terry! The violin is in Malaysia but its still in the customs. They said it will probably reach my town next week so I can't wait! Actually I received the shoulder rest along with the notification letter that the violin arrived last week but I had tests so I'm only telling you all now.

This is very nice. However, a brand new student violin in Malasya costs about 56 dollars, here the shipping alone cost 65 dollars. If you had wired the plus 200 dollars you all invested in this violin, she could have bought a really nice quality brand new violin, and "el palo" violin could have been donated to some student in the United States. I really don't see the point. Plus her having to wait more than a month to get it...It's a very nice present for Huey though and...great!

There's also a human connection to consider. Sending a specific instrument is a much stronger gesture of community support for a musician than sending some money and saying, "get a violin." The violin sent to Huey is special because of its history as a much loved instrument that is being passed on to a next generation musician by way of people who know this person on an international forum. There is a tight web of connections between the instrument and the people. Thus, the violin takes on a level of symbolic value that a new instrument just doesn't have.
At its core, it is the same as this story:

People are about more than pure practicality.

The point is. I have donated many violins to people in the US. If we decide to donate outside of the US we have that right to do so.Hi Kevin. You should have read what I wrote more carefully. I'm not against violin donation, just the opposite. I just said that with the money invested you could have benefited two or three students. Try to read more carefully please, do not just react. This was just a suggestion for future donations. If I'll contribute, I want to make sure that my money is wisely used. Good luck.

Hi fiddle4fun I didn't read your post yesterday and I'm sorry to disappoint you but this is not an antique violin with a history, it's a new generic student violin

Fiddlerman actually lived and worked in Malasya, he must have friends and people he knows there.
