I know there's been musicians that have volunteered time to bring some joy to folks in hospitals.
There's even a 'Musicglove' used for stroke therapy.
But what about using a silent electric fiddle for recovery, while in the hospital?
Has anyone here been in the hospital for more than a few days & asked to have their fiddle?
Granted, it depends on if you are in a private room, or not - but I can't think of why there'd be any objection to a silent electric instrument.
I don't know about anyone else, but I've really come to rely on my fiddle to help keep my mind off worries and pain.
I'm having some anxiety over not being prepared... because I can't imagine not being able to grab my fiddle - especially with pain, boredom & anxiety being the 3 things I always remember from past hospitalizations. I can knit, crochet or play with my Orba 3 (in a pinch) but it's just not the same - those may relieve boredom, but they don't make me 'feel' better, not like playing the fiddle.
...the problem is: I can't quickly get my hands on a 'cheap silent' 6-string EV. I'm hooked on 6 strings, but I don't want to spend a lot on a fiddle I'd only use for this situation. Wish I'd thought about this like 6 months ago. 🥴

Can you get a mute for a six string, just thought about that.
My violin came with a tourte mute, but I need more than one to be more 'silent'! Regular mutes don't fit on my 5-string, so won't fit my 6.
The bigger issue is I wouldn't take anything of value to the hospital (learned the hard way)... I had seriosly thought about it, though.
I'll probably find out this week if I'm going to be stuck for a while.
Appreciate you asked!
...settled on a very cheap 5-string electric viola (I'll hate & will probably fall apart), but I should get it next week. Thank goodness I have a great imagination.

Mentioned in my blog that I received the silent 'UVO' I ordered this evening. Wish I didn't have to shape the bridge, but it's a completely new blank that would be too high even if it didn't have to sit on this type of pickup. It's too late for me to want to mess with it tonight. We've been having some Winter storms (which is beautiful) unfortunately, I don't think I can put off going to the VA hospital any longer - there's still a good chance I'll have to stay for a while, but maybe I'll get lucky.
If I do get stuck there (and if I have any hopes of using the silent fiddle), just realized this will be the first time I'll have to consider choices of where I let them put an I.V. in my arms!
I've had problems with pain medications NOT being effective, unlike my husband (Kevin), so it's worth it to me if I think playing might help more than just listening - but listening to music could still help 'during' a proceedure, where playing wouldn't be practical.
Utilizing Music Therapy to Manage Chronic Pain (MedCentral)
It is not about performing, but rather creating pleasure to distract the brain from processing pain signals.
I don't know if talking about this is helpful for Fiddlers, or if it makes folks feel uncomfortable - let me know.

Whew, I got lucky today (thanks Mouse)!
As I've gotten older & been through more... I've become like my cats, not wanting to go to the Vet! I'm just not keen on frequenting places sick people congregate... it started with covid-19, but MRSA seemed everywhere, too!
So, today was my 1st day seeing any Physician since covid-19 started & my immediate worry: I'd need I.V. antibiotics for my leg!
But, what was REALLY scary - we had no problem finding a VA Hospital parking spot. 😳 Jeez, forgot all about today being a Federal Holiday! 🥴 I walked in (wheeled in) with NO appointment... kept hearing 'Moll Peatly' (slowly playing thru my head) 😉 but in the end I was taken care of VERY quickly, then back on my way home 🤗 ...with prescription antibiotics in hand, everything else I needed & my requests for consultations handled!
Btw, my 6-string Maezarine (with my Fiddlerman Noir bow) was snug in the back of our car waiting, just as a precaution (decided I can play ppp). 🥰
We'll see how I luck out the rest of this year, but at least I have time to prepare the new 'silent' 😖 5-string Viola for 'in-hospital' recovery therapy.

I brought a guitar for a couple week stay in the hospital. These days I would have a really hard time with a longer stay, I would miss my cats Voodoo and Otto too much. I do not think I would have much luck bringing them.
And glad your hospital visit was quick and easy.

Thanks - makes me happy to know you were able to take a guitar... but yeah, cats - better to be home cuddling with them!

Thank you!
I'll feel more like celebrating when my leg is completely healed, but doesn't hurt to play a few happy tunes while my leg is still jacked up on chunks of foam!
...I do feel better having an in-hospital plan for the future (that includes the fiddle) - a little less anxiety.

Thank you!
Wish I'd heal as easily/quickly as I did when I was younger.
There's things that will land me in the hospital, eventually - but first things, first.
No one wants to think about unexpected hospital stays - many folks visiting the ER don't feel well enough to think about anything at that moment. Getting older, the possibility of needing an after-surgery care facility is something no one wants to think about, either.
🤔... there's some musical instruments I would definitely NOT want to hear if I was having a hard time recovering from an illness or surgery. 😖
Watched a cute film during the holidays - 'A Merry Scottish Christmas'. Folks awoke in the morning, not to the sound of an alarm clock, or even a rooster... bagpipes!
