I have mentioned earlier about finding a really genuine, but ageing, luthier and his wife running a music store in a 2 mile wide town.

Anyhow, on my first trip there I also tried a few of his violins.  I was impressed with one of his medium price violins.  Why should one sound so good?

With this violin stuck in my mind, I came up with a scheme.  I would offer my violin as collateral and then borrow the one I liked for a two week trial.  He agreed, but I wanted to play it a little more right there.

Then he "confessed", the violin sounded great and it was one he hand made!

How wonderful to see the smile on his face that someone else recognized his special sound.  Perfect bliss!

A simple afternoon that I won't forget.

Very cool story Oliver, was that in NC.  It's gotta be the same feeling that a parent gets when people fawn over their baby/toddler [notice I'm not including teenager!].

You know that you might as well buy it.

I'm waiting for the gas company to send me a check then it's off to the luthier or over to fiddlershop.com.

@ftufe   Yes, that is NC but I can't say where or we'll have a plague of Yankees !

@Kevin   Yeah, I just needed to get home to the right bow and the deal was done.

I had a week to decide but it's a done deal.

Maybe I should hold off calling him so he can enjoy the suspense for a little longer.
