What a find!!
He even has the same carpet as my 'local' luthier!!
(turner violins at the Custard Factory, Birmingham UK)

I am amazed at how old people of my age are.....

The good part is that I have been asking some locals if there was a violin shop close by but most of the locals here are retirees from NYC who know nothing.   It took me about 4 years to find this guy out in the boonies.

I finally found a luthier that still makes instrument in Québec hehe, they are hiding off the internet I tell you! There is a little image of his heaven also, but it looks all neat.

Wow ..... "neat" is right.

My sloppy guy is a derelict anyhow.  I asked him why all his display violins had the shortest chin rests I had ever seen.  He gave me a patient smile and said "They are the only kind that work."  Hmmm !

I guess I should get one of the short ones then :-)

Believe is or not the man reached that conclusion and he is on NO forums NOR reads them and has no other outside influences.  Interesting.  The violin I got from him already has his "special" chin rest and he is right.  It is his $10 high end model and he does not know what the name is surprised

Haaaaa!  Those damn New Yorkers, lmao.

When I saw the first pic while scrolling up, I thought this was a pic of a NC backwoods baitshop with a fancy display case; then scrolled up one more and thought, "yeah, baitshop, he has fishing poles hanging in the background", then realized, wait, not fishing poles, violin bows,,,,,, and it's a music shop!roflol

And the "because they're the only ones that work [read, only ones I have to sell]" comment just topped off the picture.

Thanks for sharing that little piece of American charm Oliver!  I've seen something very similar in Lake Worth, TX; music shop that happened to also sell worms [that would be fishing worms]!

If you drove thru his town at 25 MPH you would have to back up to see it.  The worms can't be far away.

Besides, I may have been hasty to only show the violin part of the operation.  His actual location is called a "Mercantile" ..... whatever that is dazed

@Fiddlestix     hang loose     I have a CR picture somewhere.

@Fiddlestix    Ignore the other electronic junk in the picture.  The 2 CR picture is a comparison to a Berber.   The unknown CR is the "best"  so he says and I have to agree.  I played for about 5 hours yesterday without  any aches.

A Mercantile is a place to dine out (?)    I did not see any NC coleslaw in the shop ...

or hush puppies, etc. so maybe his shop once was really a "Mercantile"  ????
