Saw this photo posted on Facebook by the International Bluegrass Music Association. I'm guessing, by the way the guy is playing it, that it's some kind of double bass. Anyone know exactly what it is?

Interesting!  Looks hard to play... ?

 

By the way are violas hard to play and is it the same thing as violins, where there are very rapidly produced ones that do not sound very good but are inexpensive?
