I did try violin for a short time in 4th grade, liked we learned about some 'Classics' of music in Jr. High & even dancing (and the music important for the type) was part of our time in gym class. When I could choose classes in High School, I probably would've chosen art over music, but couldn't even do that because I had such a full schedule geared to get me into college... also started working when I was 14.
Can't overlook age-related ailments & medications that can take a toll as we get older - pain definitely zaps my motivation (which wasn't an issue when I was younger).
..idk, I was too busy with other things when I was a kid. I have a little more control over my life now, but a lot still had to happen for 'me' to be at the right place in my life to start learning to play the violin AND stick with it (almost 4 years, thanks to everyone here)! 🤗

Yes, I also wish I had started earlier, or perhaps had been able to devote more time, energy and attention along the way to my music.
But it won’t do me any good to dwell on any of that. The fact is that I am extremely fortunate to be able to work every day to improve whatever fiddling skill that I do have.
I understand that there are some 7.9 billion people in the world now. The great, great majority of those people do not have the luxury of ever even picking up a fiddle, not to mention working to improve their vibrato, string crossing, third position, whatever.
There is no question that the 6 year-old starting with Suzuki will advance far more quickly than I do. But I doubt if that kid appreciates the opportunity as much as I do!
