Well, I changed my cello strings today. It has been since Feb 2020. They were beginning to sound lifeless and that was a weird sound coming from the D string with specific notes.
I did my Let It Snow video first. The note it happens with is not played in that song. So all the weird sounds Fiddlerman will be hearing will be me. I did not know how well the new strings would stay in tune and I knew I would have to do a lot of videos to get a good one, so I waited.
I had Jargar D and A, I cannot remember the brand of the C and G. I now have a set of Eva Pirrazzi. So far I love them. I am hoping that I will not fall too in love with them. I bought them when they were on sale, most likely Fiddlershop. But, right now this cello loves them, The natural mellow cello sound of this cello is really coming through. The other strings did not do this.
Anyway, what a difference. The cello has life again, and no weird noises. I know one of the strings had issues, and I do believe it was that D string, because when I removed it, it kind of bent weird, like something was broken in it, or there was a weak spot, it was just odd. Another one, I noticed, had the wrap wearing off. It was frayed. I probably should have changed them out earlier.

Still loving those Evah Pirazzi strings on my cello. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. Love the strings, not the price. 😁
They allow me to play much more expressively, though, because the sound is so nice. This cello really likes them. All three bows work well these strings. A double edged sword.

@Mark I just wish it wasn't the expensive set. Sometimes, I like a new set of strings at first and then after they have been played on for a while, not as much. Not sure if this will happen with these. So far, it has been a few days of plenty of playing, and I still love them just as much. I love the A string, which is usually an issue. I have loved the A with some other sets, but was not as in love with the A after playing it for a while, but this one still sounds just as sweet. With some sets the A and, to a lesser extent, the D seemed harsh or twangy. Not interested in a twangy cello. Ooh, Dwayne Eddie and his Twangy Guitar would like it.
I might have to keep my eyes open for a good sale so I can get a backup set of this brand/model. The price on Fiddlershop is actually pretty good, especially since they last for about 8 months. I have no backup set right now. That was my last set of cello strings.
I changed them after I played and submitted the part of "Let It Snow" I was comfortable with. I wasn't sure what they would sound like on my cello, or how well they would stay in tune being new, so I waited to change them until after I submitted it. I guess they would have been fine.

Just an update, I am still in love with these Evah Pirazzi Green label strings in Mikey G, my cello.
These have actually been on Mikey G for almost a year. They do need changing. I was going to try a less expensive brand when I changed them before, but I figured these seem like a very good match with my cello, so why waste money on a different brand. Even if less money, it would be a waste. The Evah Green labels last hold up quite well.
When Mikey G goes in for a check up, I will have a new set of Evah Pirazzi greens put on.

I just ordered my first Cello (NS Design WAV4) and I am sure my strings will last awhile, BUT when I need to change what should I get? I THINK it comes with D'addario Prelude Cello Strings, should I get the same? Or move up to their NS versions or something else? Most of my desired music will be more Celtic, and Pop music than Classical though that will be in my learning as well. I do not think I will be worthy or Strings like Larsons anytime soon.

Can't tell you which strings, only what I like and what my cello likes. My cello, acoustic one, likes Evah Green label strings. I have tried out others on ol' Mikey G, but I always go back to the green label Evahs.
You cello and taste might be different.
Unfortunately, for me, the green label Evahs are expensive, so I keep an eye out for sales.
I don't know what is on my electric.
