If you LOVE Cello, wish you had extra strings and maybe have a background of guitar, used to using frets - the Viola da gamba (aka Viol) could be the instrument for YOU!
I will never consider LESS than 5 strings... and I did consider Glasser's new CF 6-string Violin, but settled on their 5-string VIOLA, instead.
Now, the Viola de Gamba caught my interest, but the big drawback was - I saw NO help learning it on YouTube... until NOW!

Many sizes, with frets partway up the fingerboard!
...think I'd prefer a different bow grip, but still VERY COOL!

The heavenly Lirone (Lira da gamba) is similar to Viola da gamba (fretted), but has 9 to 16 strings - played the end of the Rennaissance and into the Baroque period.
...have you checked string prices lately? 😳
Emilia Benjamin introduces the Lirone!
BEAUTIFUL!
