Hello everyone: first violin site I've seen that has a section for Christian music. Very Cool! I've been playing lead guitar on my church worship team for about 10 years. We do the usual "high energy contemporary Christian rock" type stuff, along with the slower prettier stuff. I've also written about 20 songs… evangelical gospel lyrics to blues/rock music. I used to perform these here and there (not so much any more) with the music programmed into a couple of old sequencers I've got, leaving space for violin & guitar solos. Got tired of hauling all the equipment around, so currently working on more of an acoustic version of same with an acoustic guitar player.
But my real passion is violin. best at blues (jazz wannabe) been playing about 35 years… should be much better by now for the amount of time I've put into it! I like to play the modes and continuously work on different scale types into a 3 chord 12 bar ie: diminished & whole tone scales/arpeggios etc. There is much you can do imho with a 12 bar blues besides the regular pentatonic and blues scales.
Anyways the post box is almost full, better cut it off around here

Thanks everyone for the reply's and welcome. Unfortunately, I don't have the technology to post any music or vids. I'm a bit of a digital dinosaur! Kind of a project that I never seem to get accomplished.
I'm from Calgary Alberta but I haven't figured out how to put that up under my user name yet. Can't even find my way back to my profile settings at the moment
Tried to put a photo up but I guess it's too big. hafta see if I can take a "smaller" one
Sure seems to be a lot of good stuff over there to the right with the Videos/tutorials. Will hafta spend some time and check it out.
Cheers Y'all

Welcome bluesviolin! Love your nickname... I'm a lead guitar player as well and Fiddlerman put up a couple of backing tracks I wrote and recorded that you can just jam along to in the blues learning area. I'll put up more and would like to put up some jazz backing tracks as well. I'm a song writer too and would really love to hear your stuff (I've got promoters ;-).
On the violin I'm still a newbie so I'm really working the scales right now then really want to explore the blues and jazz on violin.
Let me know the issues you are having with uploading, downloading and recording. I'm old school and new school with all that.
Peace!

Hello myguitarnow: sorry! I've been trying to reply but for some reason I can't get thru to the site anymore on my computer. had to send this on my work computer but won't be able to that very often. will hafta see if I can find someone to figure out what the problem is.
As for hearing my stuff... about 10 years ago I recorded my tunes from a 6 channel PA head into a cassette ghetto blaster. Had to use 5 of the channels... 2 sequencers, violin, guitar & vocals. If I blew a take, I had to erase it back on the cassette and take another run at it. I later got it transferred to CD.
Anyways, the recording turned out not too bad (surprisingly enough) for the way I did it. But up until I quit doing it a coupla years ago, I was singing and playing a fair bit better than I was 10 years ago. So I'm quite reluctant to send it out to anyone. I may try and re-do it...someday. But it's a lot of work, yes? Would have to start with 2 or 3 months of re-rehearsing all the stuff and then look at the time, energy & cost of recording it. Not sure if I'm up for all that.
Unfortunately, may not be posting much for a while, until if & when I get the computer problems sorted out.
Thanks again y'all for the reply's.

What kind of computer are you using and with what operating system? If you can't even post here on the forum it sounds like an outdated browser or even a virus. Do you have enough memory on your computer to get your browser updated? FM has my number and I could probably walk you through it in a few minutes to get up to speed.

Hi: looks like I'm back for now anyways. I did some kinda AVG PC clean up a few days ago, tried to get in tonight and made it from home. Thanks for the offers of help... I don't have a phone land line where I am, just a pay & talk cell so can't really call for help. I don't have any trouble getting into some other sites so maybe the PC clean up did the trick, we'll see.
Anyways, don't mind me, gonna take a look around while I'm here.
Cheers, bv.

Welcome to the site bluesviolin.
I hope you enjoy your stay! I'm brand new to violin and I can't speak for anyone but myself, but constructive criticism is always welcome since I'm a beginner and often ask silly questions. If you have any questions about navigating the site the shout box on this site comes in handy, but it sometimes takes a while for anyone to respond since everyone is doing things and may not see for a while.
Best Wishes
On "Cheap eBay violins" … Just tell people they are like a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree. With a little love, and some practice, they too can be made beautiful.

Hey! Welcome back, bluesviolin!

That's great. Sometimes it takes very long to open this site… but i'm OK with that – good to have another brake to make a cup of coffee

No not at all FM. It just seems so many people are having problems with computer speeds and having a hard time figuring things out as far as uploading audio/video, navigating all the great forum topics and so on, where it could be operator error. Your forum is growing great and lots of people from all over the world are here cause we all have that one thing in common, "The Violin". Some just need more help than others and hey, I'm just here to help and learn like everyone else
