I listen to a wide variety of Music and bands. Everything from the 60's-70's to 80 hair bands, to new Country. But most of my time that involves listening to Violon/Fiddle is Celtic music or just surfing youtube for Fiddle music.
On Youtube, I do a lot of watching of folks like Bowfire, Natalie McMasters, Escala, Sierra Noble, they are some of my favorites.

I like the band Skillet also, especially the songs "Comatose and "Awake and Alive". Also, the band Red has a song called "Pieces" which is very good and has a lot of violin in it. Love Casting Crowns too.
Skillet has to be my favorite band. They played here in Atlanta last year and it was interesting to watch as they quoted a passage of scripture, showed how it applied to normal life, and then went right into one of their songs. They are a truly inspired group.
"I know a girl who cries when she practices violin because each note sounds so pure it just cuts into her, and then the melody comes pouring out her eyes. Now, to me, everything else just sounds like a lie."

I can't say that I've heard of Skillet. I'll have to look them up, thanks!
I'm all over the place when it comes to listening! Let's see.......
Time For Three, Lindsey Stirling, The Kronos Quartet, Bond, Escala, Circa Paleo, Taylor Davis, Doc & The Lady, Hillar Bergman, Mary Fahl, Ben Chan, Banjo Phil & Emily Greer, et. et. et.et.et.et.et.et.et.et.
I find new artists and songs that I like every day! Lately, I've been learning a lot of Civil War & Colonial era songs! They have so much tradition behind them and are based on much older songs!

Gothard Sisters
Dixie Chicks
Mairead Nesbitt (the Nesbitt Family Devils Bit session album is pretty good, I like it better than her solo stuff)
Dave Matthews Band has a great violinist in the band
O'Connor Band
Corn Potato String Band
Grady Miller (my teacher's band)
Taylor Davis
Lucia Micarelli
.... I'm sure there's others that I'm forgetting at the moment. I've been listening to lots of Irish and Bluegrass music lately and have at least a couple albums I bought that have multiple artists on there.

Most of the bands/artists I listen to have been mentioned, but Ketch Secor is great in Old Crow Medicine Show. Also, I really enjoy the Accidentals, they're a multi instrument pair, but they feature a lot of violin and cello. I pretty much love anyone that covers or does original modern music with strings.

Ray Price used to tour with a band (The Cherokee Cowboys) which at one time had four fiddles. Three of them played the background parts and the fourth played all of those fancy fills. Bobby Flores used to play for Ray. He tours with his own band now and usually has two background fiddlers while he sings and plays those other parts. He plays a great guitar also. Bobby is classically trained and he gets with the other fiddlers (violinists, in this case) one a week and they play classical pieces. If you ever get a chance to see him take it. Much better than this "new"country music.
