Here's a piece I just spotted in an ABRSM grade 6 book.

I was flabbergasted because it was one of my favourite things as a kid, but I probably haven't listened to it now for 50 years - it got left by the wayside.

I've just ordered CDs by Ferrier (+ Alceste) and Solti.

When I first went on Amazon it asked if I meant Black Orpheus, lol! You have to keep it in the Italian - Orfeo.

Andrew,

Thanks for the video. This theme from Orfeo ed euridice is one of my favorite pieces to play when I want to calm down and relax violin-1267

I still can't get the run in measure 8 clean. Sounds like mush! In spite of my limitations, it's still great fun to play.

That is misleading.

I discovered that in fact the original opera was Italian. But then Gluck enlarged it for the French market and inserted a ballet interlude in the middle, and this tune is part of that interlude.

Here's the French version: -

I don't play it yet. I'll be concentrating on grade 5 for the next 5 months. I was looking at grade 6 books planning ahead.
