I am sure that there are hidden gems. We used to have to play a given amount of contemporary classical music on a regular basis when I played in Sweden (orchestras are funded by the government) but the gems are far and few between the others..... Kind of discouraging but the modern composer is steered to writing this kind of music. They are not considered good composers if they try to write a style from the past. They are expected to write the classical music of this day and age.
