Just found this great site for free backing tracks: http://www.fbbts.com. It's billed as "free bluegrass backing tracks," but many of the tunes there are fiddle tunes that are also considered old time, Irish, etc., such as Swallowtail Jig and Angeline the Baker. You'll even find "Shove that Pigs Foot a Little Further into the Fire," the subject of another thread on the forum.

You can play the tunes online or download the .mp3 files, adjust the tempo, and even use it to slow down your own .mp3 files. Every tune starts with lead-in clicks to help you get ready to play, and repeats six times. Plus, you can set it to loop. Definitely a great practice tool.

I had a great time tonight working out some improvisation to "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," "I'll Fly Away," and "Nine Pound Hammer." Also, had a blast playing "Old Joe Clark" at normal tempo.

Another good one is the Old Time Jam Machine.

When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low,

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.

Thank you Diane.

I am finally getting a bit used to playing with back tracks.  I like the site.   I wanted to add that this works on the iphone 6.. so it is nice to plug in head phones and learn to play better with back tracking.

:)
