So the Devil went down to Ga, looking for a soul to steal. Ga, really? I mean in a pentameter sense the syllables work but Ga? thats where he goes to steal souls. And down to? like the Devil is a Yankee? but I digress, and thats not the point.

umm, where was I ?.....Devil, Ga, Oh, he sees this boy sittin on a hickory stump sawing on a fiddle and playin it hot. Yeah, cause Yankees talk like that. So I bet your soul against a fiddle of gold. I will take that bet your gonna regret, Im the best thats ever been....fiddle of gold. Impossible, maybe gold inlay or leaf but not pure gold. That devils been smokin something....but I digress, and thats still not the point.

Then comes the chorus or melody or whatever, that starts with "Fire on the Mountain, run boy run. Devils in the house of the rising sun" so I got to thinking, is there a fiddle tune called "fire on the mountain"? and is it related to the riffs in this song?

Thats my point of all this rambling. OH, and the House of the rising sun? thats a whore house in New Orleans not Georgia. Anyways, why use these words in the lyrics? whats the point? I think its like the mysteries of the dollar bill and all those symbols the masons use. "chicken in a bread pan pickin out dough" what kind of unsanitary kitchen did he visit?

Sometimes he will do this as a warmup but he usually plays faster.  Or maybe, the rest of his band couldn't figure where to jump in at that speed. (?)

surprised

This was a great post.

I found myself saying..the Devil went over to Georgia.... the Devil went up to Georgia... the Devil lived in Georgia...the Devil went back to Georgia... the Devil happened to be wandering by Georgia... The Devil was on his way out of Georgia... The  Devil went under Georgia... the Devil .....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T.....to_Georgia Its a true story, course in todays world, it would be called "sampling".

A sequel to the song, titled "The Devil Comes Back to Georgia", was recorded by Daniels and fiddle player Mark O'Connor in 1993, featuring guest performances by Travis Tritt (as the devil), Marty Stuart (as Johnny) and Johnny Cash as the narrator.

Thats my boy, Mark O'Connor. Got his fingers in everything fiddle! ha ha!
