This is how I play amazing grace after about 100 times of playing it. It is hard to hit the D for the "ME" just right. Oops I notice the video cuts off my left hand, but if you watch in youtube you can see it.

I know you have just started playing, but you need to work on intonation. Are you using music or playing by ear ?Your bowing is pretty straight, now use the whole bow.
Keep going, Scott, it'll come.
I read the music, but I looked at Fiddlermans begginer version and it was different than what I printed. I'll try his.

Scotty, I've just started the violin... your rendition of Amazing Grace is very solid sounding. I think there are some harmony notes you are hitting. Your concentration is really peaked. I like how you grasp the bow with your right hand, very smooth and flexible. Also the violin looks so comfortable on your chin. It seems like it's a part of you! One thing... and one thing only... I've heard and found out that my own relaxation and mindset affects my playing. When I take a breath and close my eyes, the sound comes out of the violin smoother and gentler, like somehow the violin is alive and responding to my own stress or relaxation. The more I "TRY" to hit the notes, the more rigid it feels, and when I let the violin do the work, it's just somehow more fluid. But that's just how I see things.... Anyhow... great video and thanks for allowing me to see you play!

what key is the version you are playing in?
I am not sure, it starts out with 3rd string DG BGB AG ED
Thanks MT Fiddler, Also I think I play better when NOT on camera, since I'm probably more relaxed like you said. This is why I want to post as many of these as I can so I can "get used it"

I thought you knew how to identify a key signature.
Can you show the sheet music that you are working from?
Are you able to play the FM fingering game?
Are you working with an electronic tuner?
Play the notes into the tuner and see whether the tuner is reading the pitch that you think you are playing.

Sadly I still don't "get it"

Yes and I still get low scores lol
Are you working with an electronic tuner?
I always use a chromatic tuner once a week to tune it, but I try to play the actual notes by ear.
Play the notes into the tuner and see whether the tuner is reading the pitch that you think you are playing.
Good idea, ill try this, it will be a pain though.

Where did you get the idea that you only need to tune once a week? You should be checking your tuning every time you pick it up to play.
Without your tuner, you will have little to no idea whether you are hitting the right pitches. Your goal is to do without the tuner eventually, but you are far from that now.
The fingering game trains you conceptually regarding finger placement. Maybe you are not fast, but if you can't translate to finger positions, you are lost on the keyboard.

Right now you don't have to get it. You ought to be able to look up the key signature in a table like this: http://musiced.about.com/od/le.....atures.htm
or this: http://www.music.vt.edu/musicd.....ifths.html or this: http://www.music.vt.edu/musicd.....tures.html

These might help you also. They are a list of key signatures and first position finger patterns. Both for sharps and flats. I refer to them quite often.

Hey friend, good job. I'm learning the version with the triple 8th note slur, (I think Im saying that right.) from fiddlermans site here. Only advice I have as a noobie is to keep playing the song over and over and over, then listen to it on youtube or somewhere where you can here the same version played a few times, then repeat the process. I've been practicing the same songs I first learned still, just so I can create muscle memory and also perfection in intonation.
God Bless you friend!
Practice makes perfect-Godliness with contentment is great gain!
