This is another attempt at Ashokan Farewell. This time I'm trying to blend the fiddle into the song rather than dominate it. Despite some really nasty sounding intonation issues in places, It may sound more like "real" music. The sound seems to lose some color when I record and even more when I load it to soundcloud. So I'm trying to figure out the recording side as well as the playing side. It's not easy. Anyway, this is in the critique corner, so have at me.

It is a lovely tune, and the fiddle was good Yayyyyy !
I see you were searching to "blend it in better" - and yes - I would agree it sounds in some way "more like a song".
My only criticisms are (and this is from my own very limited perspective - don't read too much into it! ) - I just feel this tune cries out for a more present fiddle, and, although I guess the AF is a lament, I just feel it would benefit from extra "expression" during delivery - intensify / crescendo the fiddle in places, bringing it to "the front" from time to time. But otherwise, I liked it! Nice work and thanks for the post.
I too am having a crack at Ashokan (while working two or three other pieces as well) and your piece has inspired me to "get on with it" (LOL) and when I'm happy with it I'll post it !
I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh -

I heard no violin at all.
Hmmm.. I must have blended too well. Either that, or my playing is so bad that it's not recognizable as a fiddle -- which is entirely possible.

Yep it was a bit too much in the background but I was able to hear it. It sounded good Uzi. I love Ashokan Farewell. It's the first song I play when I pick up my fiddle. Why not play it solo so we can get a good listen?
Opportunity is often missed because it wears suspenders and looks like hard work.
