I’ve been watching or listening to Don Maclean singing this and I’m trying to get some loud and soft into my playing in the places I think it should be. I haven’t played this one for a while and I thought it would be a good one to practice.. also really like the song the lyrics and love Van Gogh too.. anyway here is my attempt.

You are really doing well on your violin. I love Don McLean. I have that American Pie CD. Never considered it for violin! Great job.

@Katie L -

Really nice, Katie!  cheerleader

I can hear the place you get louder, then back softer!

Btw, this would be a great tune to start adding your vibrato on the longer notes!  I find, even just by trying, it helps me to stay on notes longer, that I might otherwise cut short.

Thanks all for watching . I’ll keep working on it and yes Emily will try to put some vibrato in .. although it’s not vibrato it’s a few wobbles here and there !! 😁

I just found the version I did back in 2021 when Dan walked in on me recording and this one is a lot better I’m improving and even I can see it !! And I was also thinking … didn’t mind recording it felt relaxed . So definitely worth recording the more I do the more relaxed and can look back !

I can hear the melody but I have to give you a tiny criticism (I know, I know...)

Camera in landscape rather than portrait mode please.  I missed seeing your fingering.

It's better than anything I can do right now, I haven't played in months because I still can't twist my left arm to hold the violin.  I'm losing ground on my skills and the way it looks is that it might even be another year before I can play again.  If that soon.

@Katie L Sounding great! Your bowing has always been so steady--

It's wonderful that you have your recordings from the very beginning of your playing.  Progress can seem slow or even nonexistent--it's hard to see the forest from the trees sometimes.  My teacher was just telling me how much I've improved from my beginnings, how in my duet playing, it was so confusing to me to hear the other part, etc.,

Characterize people by their actions and you will never be fooled by their words.

I will address the filming (again) thanks for watching really hope you bc are able to play and post again RDP.

Thank you Sharon I have never thought of my bowing as being steady that’s a huge compliment! I’m glad I kept my old videos I agree with everything you say! It’s funny how you bc are improving without realising ! Also when you go back to a piece you haven’t played for a while it feels like you have s head start!

I’ve gone back to Greensleeves now , so much for joining Stringy’s party !!
