I did a version of this early on (2 months in) but revisited now. Bowing; been workin on no shoulder and staying away from fingerboard. Some vibrato.
so, don't be gentle; give me the straight scoop; tryin' to improve here. (Sorry, @Fiddlerman, i know you hoped for naked fiddlin', but i am too shy for that)

Look at you all layed back and playing! I like it Gary. You seem relaxed. I am not familiar with the tune. Good job. Great lighting and video. If I were to try to saying something constructive, I am thinking maybe a less effects. That comes from someone who knows nothing about effects.
Thanks for posting. Keep up the good playing! Woo wootie woot!

Thanks Gary! I recognize the tune, but (and it's my problem entirely!) it keeps turning into "Summertime..... and the livin' is easy" in my head..... Oh I SO HATE THAT ! (and - I don't mean your music or "summertime", just that it happens in my head... and I'm "away" expecting a different melody) LOL.... picks up violin and has a stab at "summertime"... grrrrr.....
Unlike CPO, I don't mind the effects there at all - it's just a matter of taste - and the EV does need "something" to draw it out of its sterile shell... I usually just stick on a little reverb or chorus unless I'm specifically playing to check intonation - when the "raw" unadulterated sound is exactly what I want.
Only critical comment is - well it was said already - intonation - and since I still struggle in a similar way I'm sure I'm well qualified ( ! LOL ) to say this, I hear you "hunting" for the note at times.... you clearly knew when it was off.... Bet you feel you play it better when not recording, huh ?
Well done, and keep at it Gary !
I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh -
Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)

Pierre @Fiddlerman Yes,I can hear those. Erk. I guess that is the last time I post a recording without listening to it. Embarrassing. It kind of worries me that while recording it, it mostly seemed ok. Nevertheless, its a symptom of my poor multitasking; trying to keep up with a metronome I lost intonation focus. So, thanks. I'll practice some more and post an improved one later.
thanks again, gws

Great job GWSchweer! Don't be embarrassed at all, it's a journey for all of us. And we all play some clams now and then. People have said most of what I'm going to suggest, but here's my list in priority of what I'd work on:
1. Timing - Wayfaring stranger is one of those songs that can often be played out of time, but I think initially you should work on playing it straight. I tried tapping along with it, and there were parts where the melody lost time.
2. Intonation - It was interesting, because there were times when it was all in tune, and then other times when it got out of tune. I wonder if your reference for where your hand should be got off... I would break the tune up, and slowly work on passages, and check your intonation at the end of each measure, just to see where you are.
3. Once #1 and #2 or fixed, I say you should take a look at your bowing wrist, to me it looks a little too stiff and should be loosened up so you are using less upper arm. But really this is less important than #1 and #2.
Anyway great going. If you can find a recording of it in the same key, trying playing along with that, sometimes that'll help your timing an intonation.

Enjoy your trip. Eager to hear of your concert.
I didn't mean to imply I don't like the effects. I just am not used to electric instruments. I like your style and your violin playing a lot.
Keep it coming. I am a fan.
Will break into the electric violin world sometime soon.
