HI guys,

     I'm in the process of making my fourth 1/8 size violin for a very young (potential) fiddler. The first three sounded horrible and all of my attempts to rectify that have failed. In all cases the things sounded muffled as if stuffed with rags. I have successfully made several 4/4 size fiddles, with varying degrees of success but most of them were acceptable. Just wondering if any of you have any experience with the smaller ones. Thanks, Tony

Make sure all parts are smaller in cluding the graduations, the soundpost and the bridge. Then you need to use a low tension quality string. A 1/8 will never sound like a 4/4 but it can be made to sound OK for it's size.
