I got the new hardware today and changed the tailpiece and chinrest, but while I was working on those I tried to remove the endpin. It wouldn't budge I tried prying it out, but just chipped  the pin.. Any ideas beside leaving the ebony pin in?

With violins there is no fretting over the music.

At our workshop we use this tool:

We have several different models but this one is fine. We have a piece of leather glued on the end to avoid scratching the bottom of the end-button.
