Beware, this is only a work of an amateur, don't duplicate it, if you do, don't blame me if you fail.

Anyway, I saw a guitar nut blank made out of bone over eBay, they looked beautiful, so I just bought them....anyway, they came last Friday, here they are:

so, the problem I had after it came was to carve it into a violin's nut......

so I used some sandpaper and steak knife:

so, now it's done.....oh wait, I've also bought this fittings with bone trimmings....no luthiers around to attach them, I have no luthier tools...wot to do....improvise!

9382924109_f18e9c1473_c.jpgImage Enlarger

the tailpiece and the button was easy to place...now, for the pegs....I don't have any drill, don't have any peg shaver, peg reamer...wot to do....

9385485572_0d55c26a10_c.jpgImage Enlarger

for the first peg, the E, I tried on hammering a small nail slowly and carefully, it worked, but it took me hours.....so, I needed to think of a more efficient way...so I just used a small scissors to stab the peg and manually turn the scissors with force until the end of the scissors go to the other side of the peg, this method took minutes to complete per peg.

So, now, to fit it carefully to the peg hole....wot to do...use sand paper!

perfect! it fits perfectly without slip or stick:

now, do it all again for the other peg, and how about all?...done:

The wizard called Oz! What a great job, looks terrific. The bone nut and fittings looks sharpe. " boner" fiddles always look nice!

One thing for sure, it's unique :-) I'm glad you have the courage to experiment and the important thing is that you are happy with the result.

Congrats

Keith,

I cringe at the idea of using sand paper on the pegs. I will send you a plan for making your own peg shaver.

@Kevin M. , thank you very much, but the sandpaper worked :P ...well, I have thought of making a peg shaver while looking at pencil sharpeners, but I thought that it is not efficient enough....and I dunno how I can make a hole for a peg to fit in a peg shaver without having any drills :P well, I have also thought of just using popsicle sticks to craft the whole peg shaver, but I had no patience of making one :)

cheers! - ⁰ℨ

I went out to the store yesterday and got the things I need to make the shaver. I'll document making it and post it here.
