My wife purchased me a Stewmac fiddle kit for Xmas. Everything looks doable. I haven't done much fine wood work, but have built racecars, ground up kit cars, gutted, remodeled bathrooms, built models, rifles, etc, so I should be able to pick up what I need.
The kit requires installing purfling, installing neck/fingerboard, shaping the nut, sanding/smoothing, varnishing etc.
Should be fun, I'll document as I go.

@mkogan - excellent ! Please do keep us advised of progress (with lots of pics!)
I've looked at that kit several times over the last few years - I'm ever so tempted - and, like yourself I'm a fairly practical chap and don't foresee any major issues. It's all down to planning, time, attention to detail and not rushing things ! We've had a lot of things going on here last few years, and so far, I haven't committed to the project (what time I have, I prefer to use to practice and play) - but, one day, one day 🙂
Excellent present ! It should be a lot of fun !
I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh -
Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)
