Besides getting the concave surface you have to retain the proper arch, which changes from one end to the other. Also ebony splinters very easily and I doubt many people have a plane sharp enough to do the job.
It still ain't Rocket Science. A sharp scraper would virtually eliminate the splintering and a clever maker would shape the scraper to conform to Traditional Violin Dimensions.
We're talking about 0.5mm - how much difference would that make to a Regular Player, as opposed to a Concert Soloist? Srsly?
